Proof of GCSE or A-Level results

Hello,

Some colleagues of mine were recently discussing GCSE certificates bar College and University I have never once been asked to show them regardless of results.

Has anyone else? This is referring more to employment really.

I may have been asked in the first job after leaving school, back in the dim and distant mists of time, but certainly not since then.
They are still tucked away safe though.........somewhere............I think........

I have never been asked to show them, but you could be so I still have them, and never lie - just in case.

I work for local government and we always ask to view certificates at job offer stage, particularly where it is part of the person specification - for example, GCSE Maths and English Gade A-C required.

If you are not expressly asked, there are a number of organisations that do pre-employment checks on behalf of employers such as Experian and they will check this for the employer and report back:

That will be because of FCA checks that are in place, but I've never come across any employer checking GCSE results.

It's pointless apart from public sector "person spec" box checking.

Employers offering day release where the college has certain qualifications for entry to the course tend to ask, the civil service definitely want them but like other posters I've worked for both small, national and multinational companies and have never had to produce certificates.

My first job leaving school I applied for before I finished my exams and was already working for the company by the time the results arrived. I don't remember anyone even asking if I'd got my results . In those days we didn't have those endless newsreports about exam result days though so probably no-one even knew when the results came out.

FCA considerations don't apply to everyone at a Financial Services company.

Without wishing to debate semantics with you, your question was general in nature and didn't say "other than in regulated roles and in LA recruitment".

I work in education (an administrative role) and was required to produce my certificates when I started 3 years ago. I'm pretty sure the job before that also asked for them and I have had to produce them when I attended an interview for a position working at the Job Centre.

I passed my 'O' levels in 1985 so am pretty amazed that I even still have the certificates never mind know where they are ;)
