Virgin Credit Card

Options
Does anyone know what credit checks Virgin perform to see if your eligable for a card.

Do they check your wages with the bank, or just the credit history?

thanks

    Andrew,

I've followed your recent postings (and contributed), and I think the best thing you could do here is to ask your Aunt to add you as an additional cardholder on her card for your forthcoming trip.

You've been given a very low £260 credit limit from Barclaycard, then declined by Egg. You seem reluctant to apply to your own bank (assuming it's not Barclays), and after all no-one knows you better (financially) than them. And now you're thinking of applying for a Virgin card???

I think you need to get hold of your credit reports to see what's going on there, because the only thing you're going to do with multiple searches in a short period of time is trash your credit file further.

That said, to answer your question directly, Virgin (or rather MBNA) perform the same checks as all lenders - and then score you based on their own criteria.

They cannot check your salary with your bank, but they DO compare the salary you gave them to the salary you quoted on your last credit card application - in your case, to Egg. They are able to do this because lenders use the services of fraud prevention agencies and systems such as Hunter, a system developed by MCL (an Experian company)
  • Thanks for the reply,
I was asking for my girlfriend who is going to apply for Virgin Card (instead of me). I've given up and sticking with the 260 limit!!

Unless she will be the main driver of the hire car, she'll have to add you as a secondary cardholder because the card has to be in the name of the main driver I believe.

I think that's very wise. I suggest you order your credit reports, and then post back for some advice when they arrive.

Good luck with the wedding, and drive safely! ;)

...oh, and one more thing...bear in mind that deception to gain a pecuniary advantage is FRAUD.

(Just reading beween the lines. Apologies if I've incorrectly assumed anything. ;))

No, my Girlfriend has good credit history - I have NONE... as I've never needed a credit card in the past.
