  • :)Morning all. Been up early due to my extremely early night last night!
Made pan of butternut squash soup with some stock from my freezer. The squash also from freezer as had quite a few and peeled and chopped them for future use. Freezer going down nicely now as also having some pork mince from there and making pork and chorizo burgers with chorizo found in back of fridge. And lunch is pasta leftover from last night. So making do for a few more meals, soup will be my packed lunch for tomorrow too as well.Feeling quite pleased with myself up to now :)
Also had a clear out in my study (spare room with a desk in lol), and tomorrow's recycling bin is now fairly full. More minimising.
Also gone through bank account and got rid of a few direct debits for magazine subscriptions I no longer want.
Not sure If I have anything to mend but my hubby is fixing something on the car to save me a big bill, so I will have that.

Exhausted now I think I need a cup of tea (no cake as on a diet again or is that still :rotfl:)
    Enjoy your day everyone :)
  • Morning,

Not much MMMg going on in our house, I'm feeling pretty ill so attempting to mend myself by a doctors appointment, making do with the food we have in the house (and thanks to my fear or running out of anything we'll be OK for a good while yet) and I have miminised my spending by leaving my purse at home when I come to work so no opportunity / temptation to go to the chuck wagon at lunchtime.

I have also minimised my DD's outgrown uniform by offering her old cardigans (still in good condition) on a local facespace page and selling them. Next up will be two pairs of shoes, all cleaned and ready to go - every penny we get from this will go to the future uniform spending tin which itself is a re-purposed coffee tin!

Have a good day all x

Just remembered - something I read stitched into an American patchwork quilt a few weeks ago. It could be our motto for 2016:

    Use it up
    Wear it out
    Make it do
    Do without.

That's great monnagran! I feel like I should get that framed!! :p

We're hoping to try and make do and mend this year, as Mr BH and I recently got engaged!!:T So....after working out our wedding budget (getting married next year) we have to cut back, and try and sell any bits and bobs we don't need/want anymore for extra cash! I used to treat myself to lunch at work once a week (usually bring my own sarnies), but I've managed to not do that so far this year :j We'll see how long it lasts!

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Year (only just found the thread again from the last one, so working my way through reading!)

We found a garage in our village! We've only been here 5 years  ; we thought it was an old-timer dealership! Anyway, it saved us €10 at least on changing 2 lightbulbs in our car.

I posted on the other thread a few times but sort of just vanished from it. Hoping to keep it up this time.
This year I'm going to try to cut down on our spending as a couple, we rehomed one of our dogs so only have one dog and three cats to feed. We have sadly just had to replace our washing machine, as it was 16 years old, and finally gave up. Our fridge freezer is the same age and on its way out too.
I'm going to use an equal amount of yarn from my stash to any yarn I want to buy before buying it, as I do have a lot. Following on from that, I want to teach myself to knit properly, as last year I taught myself only knit stitch.
Also trying to think of uses for the bits of fabric in my stash, mostly bits of poly cotton from old sheets I made skirts or dresses from.

Make do : using an odd sock filled with dry rice as a heat back for muscle ache, made soup from veg laying around in the fridge

Mend : taking up the bottom of one pair of my partners work trousers

Minimize : my yarn stash! Have crocheted a hat and mittens set in pink and purple to fit a six month-one year old, started a blanket though I'm looking for smaller projects too as I get bored of blankets otherwise.

Really enjoyed reading your posts this afternoon

    Just back in from work.
I did minimise something today the cover for a friends market stall I mended for him was returned this morning, he was really pleased with it.
Also used up another two little balls of left over wool last night, think I have enough to mKe one more before I have to go rummaging in the cupboard.
Tea tonight will be pie made from stuff we have in. And after that hopefully more knitting and a DVD.

    Have a good night all

Only mending today DD jumper had a tiny only in so I've sewn that. When doing her ironing I noticed that DGS has lost a button from the neck of one of his tops, luckily there's a spare on the label at the side. So I will be taking white thread over tomorrow to sew that on.
Yesterday when taking DGS to nursery in the morning I picked up a fleece a good one Craghopper. I placed it on the railing so it might be claimed, well it was still there this morning and also when I went to collect him at 3pm. So I brought it home it will fit someone, 2 days was long enough if I didn't have it some else would. It will be given a good wash.
That's it for now folk. Happy MMMing
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)
  • Been doing well with food eating yummy meals and not watsibg anything. Went through my cupboard and organised it all to keep everything fresh and there is so much. Dh gets paid next Tuesday so I'm determined not to go shopping until then. Means I will need to be creative with packed lunches Monday and Tuesday but I have oatcakes in and lots of penaut butter (that they prefer to sandwiches anyway) and some pots of peaches and some cashews so I'm gonna put them in a box out of the way tomorrow, I also have some yoghurts I'm gonna hide in the back of the fridge and judging by stocks I will have some fruit left too. It's a new way of thinking, in the past I'd have gone to tesco Sunday night and spent twenty quid on packed lunch items out of habit. Trying to convince them to have school dinners after half term as in infants its free.
I'm going to make up a few smoothies tomorrow with some spinach that needs using and I will make a risotto with a butternut squash and some rocket that needs using to top it. I've saved the peelings from the potatoes yesterday wondering about making roasted potato skins with different dips.

Feel I'm getting better. I think getting to grips with the food budget and food waste particularly is what will make the most difference atm, along with generally just not buying things!!
