Apologies for the use of some technical terminology.
After me shouting at the dishwasher for several weeks now after it left dishes either dirty or covered in a fine powder, my dear hubby pulled it apart and found a lemon pip trapped in the wheely thing that helps move the water out - with the help of utube, he said he would have never found where it was hidden - potential saving of at least £200 on a new one :T:T

Hi chums on my holidays and DD gave me a skirt that she had lost so much weight in was too big for her Its a cotton one and very pretty and summery, but as I am not brilliant at shortening things DD is 5'8" and I am 5'4" on tip toes it is far too long.
Now I want to shorten it but as its a flouncy one(lots of material at the bottom.Do you think it would be better to unpick the waistband and take the excess from the top ?
its a job I will have on my to-do list for when I get home Its such a pretty cotton swirly skirt.I don't own a machine (never learned to use one) so I thought I could cut a chunk off the top and restitch the waistband ,what do you think, would it work OK. Knitting I can do no problem, but sewing apart from turningup the boys school trousers or sewing on blazer badges or buttons is about my limit.
I went to the Chilli Farm on the Island and attached to one of the outhouses was a super knitting shop so I treated myself to some lovely wool for my charity blankets.
Really enjoying myself over here, apart from Thursday when I foolishly forgot to smother my bad arm with sunblock and it looks as my dgs said like one of the donor kebabs that turn in the kebab shop.
Felt very ill by Thursday night shivering yet burning up.Luckily I have a supply of anti-bios with me as my right arm has lymphtic drainage problems, and I have to keep a supply with me at all times .So I am taking the capsules and tonight I feel slightly better. Its horrible when I get a flare-up a bit like having a bad dose of the flu. Hopefully the pills should help clear it up,but it means at the moment I can only use my left arm which is a nuisance and I can't knit. Typing this with one finger so its a bit slow:) Hope you are all doing well.
We get home next Friday then on Saturday I am driving DGS Ben back to Uni as he has extra work to do with his part-time jobs. His uni grant doesn't appear until mid -September and he needs to pay his student rent at the beginning of the month Bless him he has been a real angel this holiday helping out with the boys and his Mum.Right I am being called for a cuppa
Take care all

Sounds like you had a touch of sunstroke too - make sure you have enough fluid too and get well soon.
I had sunstroke once and it's something I ever want again :eek:Aiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

Thank the Lord for the anti-bios its brought my arm down from barrage ballon size at least Yes I think it was a touch of sunstroke as well.Weird thing was I was sitting half under the decking brolley and wasn't out there for that long either. The palm of my right hand got really burned as well, but I think it also had a bit of infection as well.Still feeing a lot better today at least0

I am glad that you are feeling a bit better. Take care and keep well hydrated pet.
DD came over yesterday and I showed her how to make quiche without the pastry. We made three different ones, had some for a late lunch and she took some back with her. Her shoulderbag was falling apart so I nipped upstairs and came down with two bags for her to chose from ( a la charity shop months ago). She went off with a bag and was chuffed that it was Suzy Smith so a happy bunny. We had a nice quiet time together and it was nice to be one to one.
Older dd might be bringing in laws round for a cup of tea and to see the new house. I checked what time they were coming and it will be after one so have been clearing my bedroom out and showing stuff in integral garage. Once surfaces are clear I want to dust, hoover and do a quick mop of the bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom. The chaos seems to be moving room to room but if it makes it to the garage at least it is out of sight (I am locking the door just in case)
It looks as if it could be a nice day so we could sit in the garden if they fancy the idea. Might be a good idea to do the heavy work before washing my hair etc and getting into a dress. Just hope no one knocks on the door.
Hugs to all."This site is addictive!"

JackieO it depends a bit if there is a zip in the skirt if so it will be difficult to move, also the shape of the skirt needs to be considered, if you cut it off at the top will it make the waist bigger and mean more fabric needs to be fitted in to the waistband.
Today I am minimising by listing stuff on ebay, I've also taken stuff round to a friend of mine fundraises for Motor Neurone Charity.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Evening.
Been missing in action as real life interfered with screen time. Main job and second job have been really busy. The end is in sight on the second job as the summer draws to a close. It's nice having the extra money coming into the house, but means that I do need a break.
Today however I have been making do and minimising. OH built up the height of my raised veg beds, and I have been wondering how to fill them...I had priced up topsoil, but at £80 a ton bag, and stripping it from somewhere probably nice it seemed a waste. In the meantime I had been clearing a corner of the garden that was over run with nettles and shrubs and I discovered a very old compost heap. OH thinks 12 years or older! So I have been slowly moving the beautiful soil, picking out weed roots, bindweed and nettles, sieving it and putting it into my new beds. I am just over half way through the heap and I have filled one raised bed! All it has cost me is time and a couple of long hot baths to ease the muscles after!
We had a lovely walk to the next village across the fields and had a drink in the pub there, before walking home again.
Looking forward to getting back to reading and posting on here...I have missed the inspiration.

H/H I think I will ask my friend June when I get home as she is very good and has done a tailoring course. When my children were small she used to make and sell stuff to all of the Mums in our road. She still makes most of her clothes still even though she is in her 70s.
It hasn't got a zip, but itsone of those skirts that is in layers and thinking about it you are right there would be more material if I undid the waist.
Its such a pretty skirt and very summery and if she shortens it to fit me it will do me for several summers I'm sure. You can also roll it up easily for packing and it doesn't crease at all.One of those wash, hang on the line and wear when dry ones:)
Feeling my old self again today and going with my son-in-law to check out a pub at lunchtime for our last night's meal on Thursday.
DD and the boys have gone sea-fishing off Yarmouth (fish supper hopefully)
Weather looks like its perking up again, still a bit breezy though
Cheers JackieO xx0 -
Hello MMMers, haven't managed to post for a while but as usual have been reading along.
So first the big news - me and OH will be on the move again soon, we have finally been allocated a council house after years of being on the waiting list. Unfortunately we don't have any savings to use to furnish it so my debt will rise a bit again but will looking round charity shops, on freecycle, etc to minimise costs. Any other suggestions of how to furnish a flat very cheaply gratefully received
I've been minimising various toiletries recently so bought a couple of things today as had ran out.
Making do with whatever food is in the house as haven't had time this week. Think I will do an online shop and get it delivered to save some time. Work has been extremely busy and I'm moving jobs in 2 weeks time so need to get lots of little bits done before I leave.
Hope everyone is well, it's glorious sunshine here so am having a lovely walk to work.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86

Well, am making & minimising with a vengeance... DS2 gets married in just under 3 weeks and his lovely fianc!e asked if I would help make paper flowers for the reception. So I have minimised every single piece of tissue paper in our house, plus several packs from the R@nge and some florist's wire, to be made into tissue paper cornflowers, dahlia's and crysanths
Will be mending a bra before the wire escapes in the washer, and will be making do with fridge leftovers and some salmon from the freezer for tea. DH made do with leftovers & h/g beetroot for his lunch, and I minimised a few more h/g tomatoes in a sarnie for mine.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
