Is this laptop any good?

Hi all,

looking to purchase a new laptop and came across this deal on pc world. Is this spec any good for the money?

Need something for everyday use and a bit of streaming/downloading. Use photoshop and video editing suites a bit also.

Any help welcome... Cheers

  • You could do all you state on a much cheaper laptop, but that's not what you asked.

Thanks for your reply... Just looking for something with with a fairly strong processor for less than £450.

Have you noticed any other deals at all?

Anything newer than 10 years old will handle streaming and downloading without a problem.

Photoshop and video editing, will you be running them at the same time? If so you may want more cores..

The 5200U is a dual core 4 thread CPU?

Yes will likely be running at same time. I checked the 5200U on CPU benchmark and its ranked lower than the 6200U which the laptop on PC world has?

Yep, good CPU. Good deal I'd say. I'd also get a +2 year warranty (£60) aswell (don't trust budget laptops' reliability). A good upgrade will be to put an SSD in (and move the 2TB drive to the optical drive bay). But no hurry for that.

Thanks for your input... It's definitely the best I can find so far

It seems like a decent machine to me.

(I wouldn't pay for an extended warranty though.)

What exactly do you mean by "everyday use"?

    Web browsing, emailing, Skyping etc.

Is there a particular reason you need a laptop, rather than a full size PC?

    Me neither.

Would that be a 2 year warranty, or an additional 2 year warranty, above and beyond the normal warranty?

Yeah so just web browsing, emailing, streaming, downloading, small bits of work, excel and word etc... The main reason for a good processor is due to the video editing and photo shop.

I've seen a few cheaper models with the 5200u processor but for the sake of an extra £30-£40 this model has a stronger processor

Seems like this machine is a decent price going off the feedback

For £100 less see this thread:

    HP ProBook 450 G2 i5-5200u £299.97 inc

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5381399

This then gives you the money left over to add a SSD, external case to put the old HDD into for use as a back up drive and an extra 4gb RAM. In the real world you would not notice any difference between the i5-5200u and i5-6200u.
Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.
