Wife set-up a pre-approved payment for £5 on a debit card, had £150 taken instead.

Hi all. Hope this is the correct forum!
My wife set-up a pre-approved card payment with a company for £5 per month but we've found just today that £150 had been taken out of our bank account on the card (this was for a debt recovery firm that I had no knowledge of).
The banks are closed today (as expected), but I was simply inquiring would it at all be possible she could possibly get this payment reversed when speaking to the bank tomorrow?
I'm not too familiar with what a pre-approved payment is myself, I take it she has given them her card details and they've scheduled a payment to come off at a certain date? I'm wondering if there are any sort of consumer protections on this practice as it seems dubious to me.
Would it be worth getting the card stopped at all?
Thanks for your time in reading and Happy New Year!

It's a typical unauthorised transaction that the bank has to refund almost instantly on the customer's request and can take this money back later only if the company can prove that the transaction was authorised.
If so, this article is more relevant: Visa, Mastercard & Amex Chargeback0 -
Thanks again, We'll look into all avenues to get this sorted.0
