AA insurance is NOT the AA !!

Do you think ASDA are an insurance company?0

Seriously I can't be the only person who takes the words "Company x car insurance" and reasonably assumes the car insurance is from Company x
Do you think ASDA do life assurance (or insurance as they dumb it down to cater for their average customer)? Or Tesco do house insurance?
White labelling of other companies products is very common. It doesnt just happen in financial services. Electronics sees a fair bit of it too where the item is made by one company but branded under the retailer brand name.
As it happens, AA do go further than most in what service they provide and its not just a white label.
edit:Do you think ASDA are an insurance company?
Damn, you are quicker than me but great minds.....I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
However when I had a crash they put me onto a company called Premier Claims and told me that THEY were my insurer. I had no idea of this when I bought the policy
...............
I'd never heard of Premier Claims and would never have insured with them if I'd realised.
What does your policy/schedule say about who the insurer is?
Do you have a certificate of insurance?0 -
The underwriters will be Premier Underwriting at a guess....0

I was drawn to this thread as I wondered what was going on as I worked for AA Insurance for six years - it's definitely very clear who you are insured with0

Always look for the underlying insurer, and avoid like the plague any that are based outside of the UK.
Do not buy an annuity from Canada Life and certainly do not buy insurance through your bank if it is Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. Similarly Santander.
Forget about AIG too (the "A" is "American").
What you need to know is whether the insurer is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and/or the Prudential Regulation Authority.
If so, you have the protection of the Financial Ombudsman Service in the event of a complaint or the Financial Services Compensation Scheme if they go bust.
The details of Premier Financial Underwriting Limited's authorisation - and contact details for any complaint - are given here.
On the other hand, if a broker recommended an insurer that was not properly authorised the consumer would have a valid complaint against the broker.
In this instance, I would have expected the AA to forward the complaint to the insurer (there are FCA rules allowing them to do this) but they do not have to.0 -

A smidge picky there magpie....but yes, I meant those who are not governed by the FCA/PRA regs - usually Gibraltar based, which confuses a lot of buyers as Gibraltar is classed as British territory.
All the ones you mention are regulated by the FCA/PRA.0 -
I agree, they don't always make it very clear.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0
