I agree with you ll. I read that the majority of cancers are due to lifestyle choices (don't quote me on that) you have certainly given me plenty to think about.0

Maman hope you're feeling better; how disappointing to have had to leave the play. This cough/cold virus does seem to be a tough 'un - DS2 had similar on and off from Christmas time up until a couple of weeks ago! He finally seems free of it (touch wood) but he kept sharing it around the rest of us too!
LL food for thought indeed - excuse the pun. I've been thinking lately about why I get such strong sugar/starch cravings and contemplating cutting out bread, pasta, potatoes to see if I notice any difference. I'm also suffering from bloating a lot recently and think too many of my meals contain bread or bread products.
Nothing to report here. I'm another who didn't venture out today so I wasn't very fab as I was doing some decluttering. Am in my PJs now and looking forward to bed.0 -
Maman I hope you are 100% recovered soon. I stopped coughing etc last Saturday and have had no return of symptoms, but thank you for your concern.
I had my 1st date yesterday evening. I wore my purple M & S velour Autograph skirt, my black sleeveless top and my black kaleidoscope cardigan. I wore my black leather boots, was carrying my black leather everyday bag and purple heart sandstone and silver jewellery, silver diamonique ring and my stainless steel diamond Ingersoll watch. I wore my long line black leather jacket, my black scarf and black leather gloves.
I went to my local Nando's, which I had not been to for a few years for the date. He had left it up to me to choose what we would do and where we would go. I had 5 chicken wings (extra hot), with spicy rice and a mixed leaf salad with a bottle of sparkling water. :T He had medium chicken wings, spicy rice, chips and a bottle of beer. We had lots to say to each other before, during and after the meal. We were both very relaxed and comfortable and could not stop laughing. I am usually nervous on a 1st date, but this time I was just confident and happy. :j
The date was supposed to happen this weekend, but he just could not wait that long in the end.
The next date is on Sunday at Karaoke. We are both happy for us to be seen as a couple already.
My 15 year old son was astonished that I had gone on a date. He actually chose to get off his laptop to question me about the date. :rotfl:0 -
Congrats on your date sugarbaby! Your comment on 15 year old sons reaction made me giggle!
Had a lovely Saturday down in Bristol celebrating DD2 birthday, tracing family tree, finding Banksy's graffiti and generally just being tourists. Woke up with a bit of a scratchy throat, went off to work, when I came home I went straight to bed. I seem to have finally succumbed to the bug that's been going around along with tonsillitis. I haven't been in so much pain, or been so utterly shattered since our family got swine flu in Spain in 2008, the difference being the swine flu went on 6 weeks. Isn't in incredible that with all scientific advancements, there is really not a lot that can be done to cure a virus, the body has to heal itself. While I have lost 3lbs, my skin looks grey and aged, I will have to get up and do a bit of fabbing minimize the damage in a bit.No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0 -
You poor thing, shandy I hope you feel better soon. I think you can be excused fabbing for the time being
Sugarbaby, so pleased the date went well, andat your Son! Aren't they funny when we dare to live a bit:rotfl:
Taking doggy to groomers in a bit but don't know what else today - mojo a bit low because my willpower has deserted me - again - no matter how hard I try to motivate myself, and the scales are going in the wrong direction! Hey ho - I'll get there in the end (I hope:eek:)
Have a great day, everyone x0 -

Wow!!! That's amazing!!
So glad you had a good time. Life's good for you at the moment and it really shows in your posts:).Taking doggy to groomers in a bit but don't know what else today - mojo a bit low because my willpower has deserted me - again - no matter how hard I try to motivate myself, and the scales are going in the wrong direction! Don't take this the wrong way ellsbel but that's really ironic. How come doggy gets to go to the groomers but you don't. That seems all wrong for a fabbing thread. I think you're missing a pattern in your day. I'm feeling it a bit myself. It's always a bit like this during school holidays but I always feel cross if I don't 'achieve' anything. Unfortunately I'm still feeling a bit low so it's hard to snap out of it. I'm just going to do some basics around the house to keep me out of mischief.
LL, I think sometimes cutting out carbs can be difficult because it's psychological rather than because we're hungry. I find that if I substitute carrot/swede mash or roast for potatoes then it helps. Similarly try cutting carrots into chunks the size of new potatoes as it seems to help to have something substantial to attack with your knife and fork.
Hopefully I'll manage a bit of MK today and then anything for CS I can take tomorrow when I go food shopping.:)0 -
Good morning lovely ladies
Maman. :rotfl: visions of you stabbing vegetables.......
Sugarbabes, What a lovely date.....Nandos was a great choice. Nice food and always a fun vibe. I had a chuckle at 15 year old son too.
Ellsbell - I agree. Get doggy nicely groomed but don't forget yourself.
shandy - poor you - that sounds awful. I used to succumb to tonsillitis myself several times a year until I had them out when I was 39. You have my utmost sympathy, not only is the pain excruciating but you run a fever and just generally feel so unwell. We will let you off fabbing. Just rest. Maybe a sofa day and a nice girly DVD......
Well I was up with the larks this morning, had an eye test. Good news is the pre diabetes has not damaged my eyes, they are clear and healthy and whilst there are some signs of cataracts that's for the future so no need to panic yet. Just need to continue what I'm doing and make sure those sugar levels come down a bit more.
I went to Asda. Treats myself to,some new roasting pans - the old ones were a disgrace:rotfl: and also a few bits for summer. Two cream tops, some loose beige linen trousers and a natural straw sun hat. All I need now is some sunshine.......
I also bought a "spaghettizer". It cuts vegetables into spaghetti strips so I can eat those instead of proper pasta spaghetti. I have been cutting veggies by hand into strips so hopefully this will be quicker.
I also had a look round the "free from" range and noticed there are all sorts of gluten free products - there really is a good choice these days. So I picked up some crackers and some nut/seed bars.
Whilst I want to make as much as I can from scratch - cheaper and healthier - it is always handy to have a few easy ready made things in the house for those cba days.
Ive also booked the chiropodist for a couple of weeks time, just got to sort out a hair appt soon.
So all in all a nice productive morning. Oh and I have lost another half pound.;)
So all is good.....time for a little rest to let my lunch go down and then roll up my sleeves and do some cleaning, get on the trainer, do some yoga and think about dinner.
Need to try and fit a walk in there somewhere, didn't manage one yesterday because of the rain.0 -
LL my Ds1 sticks to a gf diet and when he visits we got to Sainsbobs, my SiL is wf/gf and buys quite a few things from M&S as both have good gf/wf ranges. Sainsbobs do wf spaghetti, it takes more cooking & needs more sauce but is quite an acceptable substitute for me & DH when Ds1 is visiting2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Thanks for that Floss.
I have been looking at both sainsbobs and M&S "Free From" ranges.
I did a sausage casserole tonight, the sausages came from Aldi. It was only when I came to cook them that I noticed they were GF.
I think it's definitely getting easier to find GF foods now.
I've just watched a very interesting programme. "How to Stay Young" BBC 1 so it will be on I player soon. This week it was physical aging, next week it will be all about the brain, tips on avoiding dementia.
You might be interested to know that they said the best anti aging exercise is dancing. Apparently it can increase muscle strength by 15 per cent more than an exercise bike0 -
LL- I found the Angela Ripon programme fascinating and really scary regarding the internal body fat:eek:
Reference Free From foods, I have found over the past year that it is a very expensive case of trial and error and of course a lot depends on one's own taste buds, but a lot of the products are gross and reading the ingredients list shows no relation to real food:(
I have settled on the occasional loaf or Ciabatta rolls from Schar, M&S cafe now offers GF rolls to accompany soup etc and an increasing range of tray bake type cakes. Sadly I don't have a sweet tooth and find most GF offerings are chock full of sweetness, I can occasionally find a cheese scone, but mostly end up with a packet of "posh" crisps as these are mostly GF. I live 25+ miles from nearest M&S so don't often get to try their GF food from the food halls:(
I am a complete disciple to "The Gluten Free Alchemist's" blog, amazing lady who freely shares her recipes (with dairy free alternatives noted too) for beautiful baked goods that taste and have the nearest texture that I have found to "real" cakes, pastries, puddings etc. The downside is that after much research she has identified the properties of various GF flours to blend and use, but it can involve a lot of different ones and they are expensive, the upside is that it tastes great and my OH will eat my offerings happily, saving me much time in the kitchen.
Sorry for long post, will go soon:o, but does anyone have any experience of using a Spiraliser please? I would like to be able to produce more colourful and crunchy salads and lighter soups, but am not up to shaving yards of things by hand. They seem quite expensive and bulky so am not sure, nothing on Lakeland gets very good reviews! The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0
