How not to handle a refund request.

I bought my son a couple of vintage arcade game cartridges for Christmas from different sellers. One of them has a fault in that it either played with no sound or the sound keeps breaking up.
The seller is one of those who puts No Reterns in big letters on there listings, but we all know that means nothing if they are claiming a fully working product that does not meet that claim when it arrives, so I issued a request for a refund. First thing I get is a message back saying it must be down to my son not configuring it properly, but that is not the case so after pointing out this is the only game in his collection that has this issue I gain asked for a refund and this is the reply I got.
"YOUR SON DON'T LIKE THE GAME, THAT'S NOT MY FAULT, THE GAME WAS TESTED AND IN FULL WORKING ORDER, THE AD SAYS NO WARRANTY OR RETURNS. THAT'S WHY I VIDEO AND PUT UV MARKINGS ON ANY EVERY ITEM, I SALE, FOR THIS REASON. AS I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF EBAY SCAMERS, THERE IS NO REASON FOR ME TO SELL AN ITEM THAT DON'T WORK, THAT'S WHY EVERY ITEM IS TESTED WHEN WE PLACE THE AD ON EBAY, AND RETESTED AND VIDEO ITEM WORKING BEFORE IT GETS POSTED OUT,ALONG WITH SMART WATER UV MARKINGS. IF YOUR SON DIDN'T LIKE THE GAME THEN BE HONEST AND SAY, THERE NO NEED TO LIE. ESPECIALLY WHEN I HAVE PROOF SHOWING IT WORKING."
I am now trying to think of a nice witty reply to the above and what comment I am going to add to the first neg that I have ever left a seller while I wait till the 4th Jan when I can escalate.
If he had simple said return it I would have sent it back at my cost and he would still have got positive feedback. Now he has said I am a scammer and liar I look forward to trashing his ratings.

Don't be tempted. Ask them only to communicate with you through the case .theres no point arguing with idiots0

I don't intend to argue with him. I was thinking of suggesting he tried to get a refund on his computer, as obviously there is a problem with the caps lock, but I think I will just consentrate on a well thought out neg.0 -
I can't see you have a case open, if you don't, then open one and be short and brief but to the point.0

The mention of escalation would suggest a case is open. As eBay suggest you wait 8 days the timeframe wouldn't be far off either.
Best of luck with the case OP, had a problem with a seller recently and had just escalated the process, was about to remove the very late arriving game from Amazon where I had then listed it, when it sold.
Ended the escalation process when I would rather have given the original seller what they deserved. I ended up losing a few quid, nothing serious at all, but would've preferred the seller losing than me.0 -

It does indeed, but I was reading that on a phone.
I am totally confused by your comments on how you managed to 'end an escalation process'…..once it's started on ebay, it's down to ebay, not the buyer/seller.0 -

I closed the case using a button on their user interface in the resolution centre. Only time I've opened a case so not really able to comment too much more.0 -
Now nicely resolved, after a bit more caps lock abuse, claim escalated, I now have a postage label to send item back.
Just the task of completing a neg and trashing his star ratings which are currently only based on 20 feedbacks.0 -
Ex BIL had a similar issue on Play.com, part of PlayTrade ( i think )
Seller had a boxed set ( Star Wars games)? He thought thats a good price but it turned out the seller had not listed it correctly and instead of having the 4 or 5 games it had one short. Returned but seller refused to refund postage so negative feedback was left. Seller then cried saying its hurting their sales and can he edit the feedback. He refused saying he is out of pocket because they listed an item incorrectly.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
