Problem getting taxes refunded on cancelled flights

I'd booked a tour with an independent company and my flights through an online company. The independent company cancelled the tour and so I had to cancel my flights. My travel insurance didn't cover the cancellation of the flights, so I thought at least I would be able to get back the taxes for the flights that I'm not going to be using. The taxes were almost £300. After waiting on hold with company the flights had been booked through for 20 mins, I eventually got put through to someone who cancelled my flights and said I would be receiving a £25 refund in taxes - not the almost £300 I was expecting. I asked why I was only getting £25 and not the the full amount, I was told that he informed me at the start of the call that I wouldn't be getting the full amount of taxes back.........I remember he told me that I would not be getting a full refund, no mention of it being the taxes.
I asked for an email confirming why I was only received £25, but the only answer I received is that I will escalate this to call listening. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and I was told the call would be escalated to call listening. I asked for a phone number for the complaints dept and was told they didn't have a phone number for them. I asked for the call to be escalated and as I'd been on the phone for 30 mins at this stage I asked if this could be done as soon as possible, to which I got a reply that I would receive an email in 72 hours.
Does anyone know if there is any way I can claim back the full amount of taxes?

Whats the full breakdown of the air fare paid?
You get back the APD not all taxes.0 -
the airline website should state what they cover under refund of taxes and usually this is APD only. The largest % of the taxes and fees will be YQ - which is usually referred to as 'fuel surcharge' or 'carrier surcharge' - this is never refunded0

The APD should be refunded. The online company you chose to book your flights through may also make their own admin charge for a request to cancel, which would reduce the amount of your refund as well.
Which OTA did you book your flights through?0
