Looking for a 32 or 64GB SDHC micro card to use in a dash cam, prefer Kingston and 64GB, but looking at this 32GB one from MOBYMEMORY , at the price it seems pretty good.

Any comments?

ETA. what is the difference between SDHC and SDXC and would they work in same cameras?

  • I got 32GB and records whole month. (occasionally parking mode recording enabled as well)

Just make sure you get Ultra SDXC one as they are faster and quicker than the normal SD card.
SDXC process/saves images videos better as they constantly working.

I am using a 16GB at the moment and that only records about 2 hours 10 minutes.

Probably you are recording constantly and Double V has his box to only save the bits when there is some strong acceleration or deceleration. He may only drive 4 hours a month too though.

No 32GB card is going to save a months constant video. My CCTV DVR records ~ 14days of 4 cameras 24x7 on 300GB
  • Mine is set to only drive mode. It only records when the engine is switched on.
Occasionally when I am at rough areas I leave the parking mode recording.
I am using BlackVue HD. (Front and Back).
I got a video on Youtube from my dash cam.

But it also depends how much you do the driving.
I think I do fair amount of driving and that covers a month and then it overlaps.
  • Correction:
My camera came with 32GB but I upgraded it to 64GB and used the 32GB as music collection in the media unit instead.
    My bad.
    It was some time ago.

    So yeah it's 64GB SDX.

SDHC - Secure digital high capacity, its an version of the SD standard that supports upto 32gb

SDXC - Secure digital extended capacity, newest version of the SD standard supports upto 2tb capacity

Note that your device MUST support the relevant standard to use the card, older devices may not be compatible with SDXC

Mine only works when engine on and I only get what I posted above, but I was looking for a larger card so I can leave it recording whilst parked, a 64Gb would give me about 11 hours based on my 16GB giving about 2 hours 10 minutes and the table on this page.

Looking at this one or this one on Amazon, but cannot work out if the spec will be OK, card I have is MicroSDHC, but would the SDXC work bearing in mind the "warning" on one of the pages,"Not all digital devices are compatible with SDXC cards. If your device is not compatible with this type of card, your storage will be limited. Please ensure you check the compatibility of your device before purchasing an SDXC card. "

Is this spec OK re the first link above? UHS Class 1 / Class10 - microSDXC UHS-I

I don't need it to record a months worth, just maybe up to 8 hours so it does not record over before I get home and can save anything that is needed.

SDHC supports capacities up to 32GB and SDXC supports capacities 64GB and higher so a 32GB card will be SDHC and a 64GB card will be SDXC. The only issue is making sure your device supports SDXC if you want to use a higher capacity card although they usually do these days.

I'm sure you don't and nor would anybody - I was just pointing out that Double Vs 64GB card wasn't recording a full month's worth.

I don't have a dashcam but I did look at some and it seems that some have the option to autosave any sections where there were high G forces and prevent them being overwritten accidentally.
