Moved into new house, boiler broken on first day

You need to start getting together the £2k for a new one. Sorry.
If you were concerned for it's age you should have got your ever so helpful plumber round to check it over prior to moving in. Surveys do not check the condition of any boiler or electrics etc. That os YOUR responsibility.
You asked if it had been serviced, the vendor replied "Yes", which is true. The complexity of the service is irrelevant - it is you who didn't ask in-depth enough questions, even though you were worried about the boilers age/condition etc.
I doubt your solicitor is being unhelpful, they just know you're on the road to a hiding. If you want your solicitor to help you'll have to pay for their services, they aren't going to offer advice for free.
If I was your vendor I'd tell you to take a running jump.0 -
The boiler was "serviced" in August 2015. I now realise this can't have been a comprehensive service, it looks like they only checked for emissions, meaning they wouldn't have picked up on an on-going leak.0

Hi there,
Thank you for this, our solicitor is being totally useless and unhelpful now they have all our money. However, we are in the process of writing our own letter, and the plumber has been amazing. He has taken photos and agreed to write his own report of his findings, so we will definitely enclose this information when we send the letter off.
I am at the point where I would be more than happy to go 50/50 and split the £2000 cost. Watch this space! We can only try
Sorry but in my experience you don't stand a cat in hells chance - I'd save the cost of a stamp and put it towards a new boiler.
The time to check it was pre-exchange either with your own independent report or in person
Given I've been in exactly the same position the only words of wisdom I can give are that you won't do it again0 -
Sorry to add to the bad news above, but same happened to us. Moved in Feb 2013, and had boiler serviced immediately for safety. All ok.
Went to get it serviced in Feb 2014, and the first engineer bodged it to make it work, and it leaked within a few hours. However, the certificate he gave me said it was serviced and all working ok at that time. However, it broke the same day completely and £3000 later, we had a new boiler (different plumber, recommended off local Facebook)
I guess my point is that as others have said, some services are better than others and a service document means nothing after the engineer has left the premises. It worked when he was there, as we found out, which is the key point.
Trust me, get the new boiler in place - you will sleep better knowing you have a reliable boiler in place with a warranty to help if it goes wrong. Safety is worth every penny.0 -
The plumbers been amazing ? Not surprising , he smells a nice big boiler swop jobNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

There is no guarantee that the vendor will pay up but there is a chance that they may contribute towards, say, half of the cost.
As your vendor has absolutely no legal obligation to reimburse you, this chance is probably less than 1%!If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Haivng read your reply it was serviced in August 2015, I would not waste money to the Solictor asking the vendor for 50/50, use that mony for the boiler.0

What kind of a boiler is it and who has given you the price.
Get at least 3 separate quotes from plumbers.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
