Contact Lenses

Hello all.
I mainly lurk in the finance section. Didn't realise this existed and oh, one for mobile phones as well! Excellent. Clearly, I have a lot of browsing to do.
I pay £26 per month for my contact lenses. They are daily ones and they are from Specsavers.
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very MSE and I didn't think twice about paying £26 a month. Until, they stopped sending me my contact lenses. I made sure my direct debit was still active (it was) and they were happily taking my money. When I called to enquire about this, the reply was they have been sent and are on there way. I should have them in a week's time.
A week went by and they still hadn't arrived. So I called again. Oh, they haven't been sent yet. But well send them soon!
A few days later, I called again just for confirmation. And the response: for some reason they haven't been dispatched. We'll get them sent asap.
And it went back and forth like this. I called numerous times and went into the store and I kept getting fobbed off. It took some highly uncharacteristic aggressiveness on my part to get some answers and finally after nearly two months, I had my contacts. No reasons were given other than a 'system mix up.'
This left me with a bitter taste. Why should I pay £26 a month when they can't provide a service such as delivery?
Anyway, to get to the point: Is it possible to get any contacts cheaper than £26 a month elsewhere?
Thank you!

I get mine from SS £13 a month on DD, thou mine are Monthly disposables. If I end up overstocked on solution I can request just the lenses and it goes down to £10 a month until I need the solution again.
I get free tests and glasses too and I've always been happy with their service.
I know you can order cheap glasses online if you know you subscription...never thought to look for cheap lenses.Debt Free as of 17/01/2009 Turtle Power!!

Thanks for the tip. I checked both Vision Express and Boots and they seemed more expensive. May need to write this off as a one off and just stick with them. I will look into changing to monthlies as £13/£10 a month isn't bad!
Do you just get the one pair each month?0 -

They deliver every 3 months, so I get 3 sets of lenses and 3 bottles of solution.
I use them for a month (taking them out and cleaning each night) then replace them.

Thanks for the info. Will definitely look into this.0 -
I have signed up to Boots lens scheme and currently pay £19 per month. I get fortnightly lenses sent every 3months. I also get free eye tests etc and 50% off glasses.0

Which one are you wearing? There is quite a contrast in price

Hi,
You should try one of the online suppliers. I've only had good experiences with them. Check out Lentiamo.co.uk or you could use a price comparison site like Visioncompare.co.uk.0 -
I too am on the lens mail Achebe with Specsavers as I have been for nearly 15 years now. I've never had any issues with them. I currently pay £15 for monthly day and night lens, it goes to £18 if I add on the solution which I do every so often as I don't need it so much. I personally wouldn't look online at others companies simply because I know and trust Specsavers, if I have an emergency, which I have done I can go in and see the optician that day. I'm sure there are cheaper online stockists but personally I wouldn't risk the health of my eyes for it.:money::rotfl::T0

you could've avoided that whole debacle by just going in and picking up a pair...
however I assume at £26 a month they're specialist, e.g, Toric/Astigmatism?
do you genuinely wear them everyday? If not you could order them (online like lensstore) less frequently?! but you have to pay for aftercare separately, unless via a vision express scheme (never tried myself).0
