It's been probably 7-10 years since I built one or two PCs and things have changed alot from the IDE days and Athlon/Sempron processors.
I am looking for the best desktop PC with Windows 7 installed(£30 ish licenses on Amazon) and as I used to love the old Shuttle Mini PCs, a mini desktop too.
Can any techies out there help me construct the best compatible systems for under £200 for the desktop PC and maybe a bit over that for the mini PC
No Celerons please! Ideally 8GB of RAM, nice multi core processor. Not bothered about hard drive speeds or SSD.
I'll kick off with some pages on Amazon with the Windows 7 DVD I will be using and possibly some case starters. Ideally available via Amazon Prime

A suggestion I saw for the desktop was
CPU: AMD 5150 1.6GHz Quad-Core Processor (£29.78 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: ASRock AM1B-ITX Mini ITX AM1 Motherboard (£28.55 @ Amazon UK)
Memory: Crucial 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£15.20 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Crucial BX200 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (£46.98 @ Amazon UK)
Case: CiT MTX-005B Mini ITX Tower Case w/300W Power Supply (£27.99 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £148.50

That AMD is worst than celeron and on a non upgradeable platform!
I suggest you look at used i5 2nd gen/ 3rd gen PC on ebay instead if you don't mind second handed

At least these PC can allow you to add a video card or change a faster CPU if needed.0 -
By the way, if you going to build your own, I suggest you spend a bit more on the PSU. Crappy PSU will damage other hardwares when it get faulty.
Personally will go for FM2+ micro atx in a small tower such that you will be able to upgrade CPU and can get a cheap but decent psu. It probably be over budget and may not be what you want.
AMD A4-7300 £33
Gigabyte F2A78M-HD2 £34
XFX TS Series 430W £31
Zalman T5 £28 or Silverstone SST-PS08B £270 -
I've decided to go with the mini case and a better AMD processor.
So I am up to £97.96, so just need 8GB of memory(£30) and what to go with on a hard drive. 7200rpm SATA or SSD?(£35) Thoughts on the AMD 5350 processor-any recommedations to go a bit higher?

CPU on AM1 socket are slow. personally don't bother.
