Is DLA paid in arrears?

I will be going into hospital and need to inform benefis when I do. Is DLA paid in arrears? If so, DLA stops after 4 weeks. Will this mean after 4 weeks it stops so that is last payment? I know it is suspended and then restarts when I come out (I will be in for longer than 4 weeks, which is why I have to informs them) How is ESA paid? As the extra's will stop accordingly aswell. Thanks

A quick google search comes up with you're answers :)

PIP basically which DLA will use same rules.
PIP is normally paid into your bank account every four weeks in arrears. This may be paid weekly in advance if you're living with a terminal illness. You can spend it as you wish: you don't have to spend it on disability-related needs. Payment normally stops if you go into hospital or a care home for 28 days or longer.

    or DLA information
If your claim is accepted. DLA is normally paid direct into your bank account every four weeks in arrears. It can be paid weekly in advance if you're terminally ill

    employment and support allowance (ESA)
This is paid for an indefinite period as long as the other conditions of entitlement are met. If you are getting income-related ESA, certain premiums and costs are affected:
    • Your severe disability premium will stop after four weeks if you are in hospital and you lose your attendance allowance, DLA care component or PIP daily living component. If you have a partner who is not in hospital and who also qualifies for the severe disability premium, he or she will continue to receive it.
    • Your carer premium will stop 8 weeks after your carer’s allowance stops.
    • After 52 weeks you will lose the enhanced disability premium unless you have a partner who satisfies the conditions for the premium themselves. You will also lose your work-related activity or support component.
    • Once you have been in hospital for a continuous period of 52 weeks, if you have no dependants living in your home, you can no longer receive ESA housing costs. If you have dependants or other people living in your home, their right to benefit depends on their own circumstances. If you are one of a couple and have been in hospital for 52 weeks, you and your partner are treated as separate claimants.
  • I know just confused by 'arrears' When it is paid in is it for the previous 4 weeks or for the following four weeks? Sorry but brain dead!!

its paid at the end of the 4 week payment period,.
you don't need to worry about it being paid in advance or in arrears. once you have been in hospital for 4 weeks, you phone them and they suspend it
  • Ok, thank you. I was just worried about being overpaid!!
