Okay, here goes. Hope the grammar is okay.
My opinion is no, you shouldn't correct people's grammar. My daughter is dyslexic and has been picked up on spelling mistakes, to the extent lately where she's felt the need to disclose this and been very upset.
If you can understand the post continue reading. I remember my daughters teacher saying the main thing is she got it down ☺.
Sorry if someone with the same view already posted, but haven't read that far back X.0 -

AFAIK, nobody has mentioned dyslexia as a 'defence' of poor spelling, but at least 3 other posters have explained about other health issues that mean they make mistakes.
You make a very good point and I hope the 'poor s/g/p must be corrected' brigade see things differently after reading your post (I doubt it though).0 -
My "problem" on this whole thread was the poster who claimed that she DISLIKED any person who couldn't spell. Why? Does not knowing where to place the "i" in a word (it can be confusing, even IF you remember that there is a ruddy "i") make you a horrible person?
Fortunately, after pointing out a few errors of her own, it would appear that she has gone away to have a little think about the wording that she uses in her posts and how stupid sweeping statements can make you look like a right t*t when a few posts on you make a stupid mistake or three of your own!0 -

Then she changed that toathensgeorgia wrote: »I dislike people who misspell.athensgeorgia wrote: »Am I not allowed to dislike people who can't spell?
I think it was just exaggeration, tbh, and she probably doesn't really dislike people who can't spell, more that poor spelling irritates her.0 -
One may certainly hope that everybody would want to learn - the question is whether a public forum is the appropriate place to enforce that learning - which is what will happen if people start correcting other posters.
just trying

No it isn't, which is why I wouldn't correct anybody on a forum.
However, if those people who can write correctly continue to do so and don't devalue the skills on threads like these - those who have (non health related) problems with it will be helped without any effort on anybody's part.
Nothing helps correct writing more than reading it, just as nothing makes it worse (as most teachers will know) than reading poor English on a regular basis.
I also don't think there is a "poor s/g/p must be corrected brigade" on here. IIRC, only one person (possibly two) have said that they actually do this.0 -
Well apparently i am allowed to be ridiculed on here for my errors of grammar and spelling, even to be told that i have been nasty in a private message. But if i point the finger to tell someone that their view is way off the mark, i have posts removed :rotfl:
Well, I certainly didn't report your post, so I obviously wasn't alone in thinking it was nasty. Posts are normally only removed when several people report them.0 -
