I am at Glastonbury. I have bought a "thing". 😲 my OH says i now have to get rid of 10 things.
I said that wouldn't be a problem
Then he said not his things....That's so unfair......:rotfl:
Been quiet on the thread from me as haven't had the pooter on very much as have been spending maximum amounts of time at the allotment after work, waging war on prolific weeds. Will be starting to harvest some crops tonight and over the weekend; blackcurrants and broad beans.I also think I may be turning into my Dad, which isn't a bad thing of itself (he's a lovely bloke) as I have developed a deep and probably abiding loathing of Shopping. As in, really really not wanting to have more Stuff entering my life.
At the moment, I shop for foodstuffs and nip into a chazzer where I am pals with the staff for a natter and that's about it. I am making excellent use of the library, tho.
I was wandering in there a couple of days ago, thinking what a truly delightful invention the public library is; free books which are shelved by other people, re-shelved by other people, in rooms which one doesn't have to dust, vacuum or heat oneself.
The in-flow of Stuff has virtually stopped, the outflow is, occasionally, things like books which I have now finished with, or things which have been worn out and are exiting for recycling. Natural attrition, so to speak.
So, a kondo-ista is slightly spinning her wheels. What to do? Hmm, I think I should schedule a visit to the parental home at some point in the next few weeks, if the lottie can spare me. Plenty of Stuff there to boss about............ :rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Please do, GQ, please do
MMF007, my heart goes out to you with that tooth - and the swilling too, yikes.
My brain has finally started to work again, as the heat's come down a bit, I actually managed 5 hours sleep last night without waking up feeling ill from the heat ... gradual kondoing of my kitchen implements has been going on, they are *so* overstuffed its shocking - a couple of nice quality stainless steel things are by my front door for my niece to check over.
I also have an empty six inch deep lock n lock thing, about A3 size, the contents of which had been kondoed - so all the extra from the kitchen drawers that I don't want to get rid of has been put in there. I only have one potato masher, but even that's in there, a ladle, that sort of thing.
From the garden, I'm kondoing a gooseberry fruit bush - it's about 5 years old, terribly prone to suckering, and each year presents me with a total of 2 goosegogs. It's in too central a place to stay, so I'm losing it, I'm going to add some extra drainage there and put a self seeded salad burnet there.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Karmakat, I find it hard to uproot any living thing, even things like weeds (I make exception for horsetails
) but have also come to the conclusion that some things simply aren't productive on the allotment and will have to go.
I am also aiming to work smarter, to get best use of my limited energy and time. F'rinstance, on previous years I have diligently hand-weeded along the potato baulks and hoed between them. This year, I haven't bothered and am just going through them in the last couple of evenings, hoiking out the biggest examples of things which are flowering and about to set seeds. The smaller weeds will get cleaned up when I harvest the spuds, then the area will be grained and ready for re-sowing with something or other.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

MMF007: salt swilling. I really recommend buying the highest quality sea salt you can afford. It makes a huge difference. Cheap table salt just makes me gag when I swill, but quality sea salt is almost pleasant.0

the thing is, let this continue, and not only is the garden overgrown, it isn't *my* garden.
I just had an object lesson in this with the awful cherry laurels at the bottom fence. Between illness and not wanting to cut them, they'd grown to about 30 feet, they were shading the garden and extremely oppressive. Between me and my brother, we cut them back to about 8 - 9 feet high, and about 3 feet thick altogether. But they looked like a row of skeletons
Fast forward to today: all the bare wood that was exposed has sprouted new leaves, and the new leaves themselves are now covered by glorious (self sown!) sweet peas, which never got a chance to grown until I uncovered them :jI am also aiming to work smarter, to get best use of my limited energy and time.Save2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Two things Karmacat : your 'new' hedge and the sweetpeas sound gorgeous. All that hard work paid off! Also, the idea that if interlopers take over then it is no longer your garden - that is So True, same with ours homes, isn't it?
Too much Stuff somehow takes over.
Well it seems to me that we MK rebels can deal with the intruders and send them on their way. Long live the MK rebels  :cool:I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Afternoon off work so packing things ready for a boot fair tomorrow.
Fingers crossed that the rain Holds off, although we didn't get any yesterday.
It's amazing how many things you can let go of when you change your mindset. Mum has found 6 boxes of things that don't bring her joy any more so I am looking forward to helping them find new homes.
X£400,000 starting Jan 2020 current end date Aug 2041 I would love the end date to be 2027 but will aim first for 2037.
1% target £4000 so far £20 paid0 -
Anyone know how WORT is?
Just sending my best wishes WORT if you are reading (but understandably not posting at the moment) x0 -

Not much MKing going to be done today, I got over-tired yesterday, but I still might be able to do a bit more in the afternoon, once I'm a bit further recovered, either in the garden or the office, which has been kind of abandoned ...Anyone know how WORT is?

Well what a day. We're approaching exchanging on the house we intend to retire to in 2-3 years time. It will be rented out in the meantime, but needs a bit of a tidyup before we get tenants in. Think swirly carpets and 1960s lampshades. Fortunately no woodchip wallpaper and the kitchen and shower room are only about 3 years old. We've had 30 litres of paint sitting in the garage since the start of May when bought on special offer. Today we visited the big orange shed and bought a lawnmower, several lampshades, frog tape, a carbon monoxide alarm, a bucket, some gloves. Got some cheap batteries for the many smoke alarms and doorbell in Poundland and some shears and a new doormat in Tesco.
Our local orange shed were having a special offer, £10 off £50 and £5 off £20, with leaflets that came with the newspaper last week. So in we went, only to be handed another £5 off a £20 spend voucher.......... so needing rather a lot, we went round and picked up some items, paid using a voucher, out to the car, back in the door, got another voucher, round we went again, etc etc. Saved ourselves £30 and got plenty of exercise. We've got more vouchers valid from Monday-Sunday so will be back next week to buy some step ladders and other bits.
We're going to raid our stock for some gardening tools to leave at the new house, in the hope that the tenants will take some sort of care of the garden if they have some tools. Trying not to spend big money on them with having to duplicate things we already own.
So many things to think about and organise, most of them involving acquiring more 'stuff' for a while which will have to be whittled back down again when we live in the house ourselves.Make £2025 in 2025
