Discovered two lots of fabric dye and a couple of tester paintpots in my cleaning. Cupboard (why?) All put on free ycle and the dyes have gone this morning . Completed my list of emails/phonecalls so now sitting in the sunshine with DH and a cuppa.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

So tis the time of year when DD forgets that despite what she wants for her birthday there is no money tree in the garden. She knows she gets a set amount from family and the cheeky monkey sends me photos/screenshots of websites. I pointed out that she had overspent by £10. The reply was along the lines of 'could i not work my magic?'
Quite pleased that she is now £12 odd under, she has tentatively asked if she is allowed to spend this. I said sure as long as i can keep any TCB!
Anyway, half term coming so starting my KD.. beer fridge is going!Don’t put it down - put it away!

Finally managed to get round to going to the CS to drop off - bag of clothes, a collapsible wardrobe (with all the bits) and a couple of other things. Not much out, but it was annoying me.0

Hello, first time poster in this thread but have been reading it for a while and have decluttered a lot of my possessions. Just curious to hear from anyone who did KM as the book suggests, e.g. all at once? I've done my decluttering over many months, and find I have "trained" myself to be more ruthless each time. I am now throwing things away that I couldn't 6 months ago. I am starting to recognize what I really want to keep, and what I feel bad about donating/chucking.Getting married September 2015 :j0

Cats ahoy, welcome!
I would have loved to have done it all at once but work and too much stuff and needing to ease into to it meant this was not possible.
As you say I have got more ruthless but in fairness I was amazed at how much stuff I happily released the first time round. I am not yet finished - I know more can go - but when i look back i think doing it in stages worked for me (and also meant DH did not have to panic when he saw lots of Stuff being released :rotfl:).
Oh yes, most of excess that remains belongs to DH and there are limitations to how much influence I have on his [STRIKE]hoard[/STRIKE] prize possessions.I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Thanks MMF.
I have joined a couple minimalism groups on Facebook, and also recently watched The Minimalists documentary. I love the idea of having enough but not any more than that. Yesterday I freecycled my tea coffee and sugar canisters as I only use the tea one, which I can use a kilner jar in the cupboard for instead. I think decluttering and organising makes me feel calm and less stressed, anyone else find this too?Getting married September 2015 :j0 -

I detest flailing around looking for things, it really gets on my nerves and saps what limited energy I have. The decluttering writer Don Aslett likened the issue to driving home a nail.
Say you need one nail and one hammer for a 5 second task. The only bit of the task which counts is the 5 seconds, the 20 minutes you took (perhaps) to find said hammer and said nail were a complete and utter waste of time. :rotfl:
If you magnify these time-wastes over a day, a week, a lifetime, you have an awful lot of irritaton and waste of energy which could be better spent on more pleasurable things than digging like a terrier thru mounds of Stuff.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

GreyQueen I also like to think of time saved cleaning, as with more clear surfaces snd floorspace i find wiping and sweeping a lot quicker.
Silvasava I did indeed get married then, probably around the last time I posted too
For some reason my house gets dustier a lot quicker than other peoples (probably due to 2 dogs and 2 cats in the house) so I'm very grateful I can easily wipe surfaces down without having to move lots of things any more.Getting married September 2015 :j0 -
Long time, no posting. Been busy though. I've managed to get rid of a few more oddments via charity stalls.
This week I had to dismantle a whole moveable rail of clothes to access the bookcase behind it. I'm now looking at the clothes, spread out in the hallway, and thinking about them. A lot of the tops are polo shirts of my husband's. He never wears them. Ive worn most of them over the years, even dyed one when it started to look shabby. But they make me look a bit butch. I have cropped hair and live in hiking gear. The last thing I need is to look even more androgynous ( hilarious given the size of my boobies 😁😁😁) It's a bit disconcerting when someone calls you 'Sir' .
( Thank you so much, Mr. Supermarket Car Washing Man.)0
