KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

That's a good idea about the preemies. I had, on a previous sort out, consolidated all the baby yarn into one box and I think I will broach the subject of turning some of it into bonnets when next we get together. We've both knitted so many blankets for the cat sanctuary that I think they're all blanketed out - even saw one of mine under a cat in pix in the newspaper featuring cats to be re-homed.
At least, due to previous sort-throughs, I can drop my hands on the baby yarn in seconds. My Dad always remarks that I can be up and down their loft in moments and get most stuff very quickly. Actually, the phrase was up there like a ferret up a drainpipe, but we're a country family and have some funny little sayings.:D
Of course, if other people use the loft space, too, they can move things around without my knowledge, which is frustrating (I acknowledge that control-freakery is one of my less-attractive traits, lol).:rotfl:
Just been watching a DVD which has now been added to the discard bag and while I was doing that, I was also working on a blanket which is made of leftovers of yarn, including some which has been pulled out from well-worn handknitted garments and combined with new stuff to give it extra 'body'.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

GQ - would you and your mum think about doing something like this
https://www.knittedknockers.org/make-a-knocker/
and maybe roping a few friends in and your mum contributing the yarn? It might make her feel a bit better about releasing it if there was a purpose. And it might be fun to get a few people together for the odd boob-knitting session0 -
She'll certainly have a laff at that, I'll have to try it.

I've also just seen on FB that refugee action in Colchester need yarn (and needles & crochet hooks) for their knit and natter group. If anyone wants the details I can PM them. Or you could check for similar options near where you live.0

Does anyone remember the knitted swimsuits and what happened after going into the sea?? :rotfl:
I stuffed all the kondo`ed wood in the boot and went into the tip area with a smile, in a few minutes some kind gentleman (worker) came to help me and we had a good chat. I went out smiling and thought, wow, another good day. I will probably not see another soul during the day but who cares, there are nice people all over the place. My vehicle was stuffed full, so I have started a good car clean, just waiting for the vac to re-charge
I use an ex table protector to protect boot and folded seats, was white and now filthy, so I gave that a good scrub on the table in my garden. Don`t have any spray gen purpose cleaner in my house so started using a bar of sunlight and a scrubbing brush, while wiggling back n forth. It struck me that this is one of the reasons why so many housewives were slim in the 50s, always exercising
Got to be an indoors day today, including some rest periods as hands are a tad on the achey side. I have to do some wood preservation and fungi zapping, under the wooden outside steps, otherwise it will be rot I`ll be kondo-ing in the future. Just need a couple of sunny days first. I am a dab hand at house maintenance but my weak points are heavy and high and I have to do this low down stuff now, while I can still crawl under spaces
Anyone else find the fridge/freezer difficult to kondo? I am getting no-where fast0 -

Oh Kittie, yes the Stretch Factor! That brought back memories. I had a brand new swimsuit (still wet!) stolen when I was at secondary school. My mother got a second hand, itchy, woollen replacement. I'll never know if it was because we genuinely couldn't afford another, or a form of punishment for being careless. Luckily I was only eleven and didn't yet have any 'knockers', which was just as well as it s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d
I can't remember what happened to it but I don't remember wearing it more than a couple of times. Maybe I 'lost' it.0 -
A pair of dh's jeans had developed 2 very sexy holes
Jeans now in ragbag, together with dd's dress and a cotton hanky.
Kondoed Annual Review with newish lovely boss; we declared our love for each otherand have set my objectives for 2017. She's happy with what I did over 2016; no bonus at my level, unfortunately. On the other hand, no bonus for anyone, as the company did not make enough profit (they made a lot of profit, just not enough for the threshold of bonus-payout). And to top it all off: because I did so much overtime last week, I have about 4 afternoons to recuperate. Last Friday and today being 2

Thank you Luxor for the Spoons reference. I understand exactly, having hypothyroidism. When I am in a better mood I will do a section about it as I have a lot of information that I think will be interesting to many of us on here.
Kittie and Wort, thank you for the shoes. I've actually tried them for my husband's shoes as he has wide feet. Unfortunately they didn't suit him. But they might do for me😁
For anyone discarding odds-and-sodds from their dressmaking/crafting piles, please have a look at fidget/activity blankets for dementia patients. I know that there is a volunteers group that make them in Stevenage, and that there was an article about them in the Mother's Union magazine last year. The blankets have been mentioned on here before, but deserves a bump. I can't find a link for charity groups that make them, only shops that sell.0 -
I recall a convo years ago with a senior fire officer. He remarked that it's pretty common for fires to start in lofts from electrical faults and it's sensible to not have too much Stuff up there as fuel and to also consider having a smoke detector up there.
I had a fire hazard check done by the local fire brigade a few years back. Apart from emphasising the danger of candles in the home setting, his other biggie was video tapes. He asked if I had any stored in the loft (no). He explained that he'd been into homes with a whole wall full, like a library. Being a product made from petroleum derivatives, they are extremely flammable, especially in large quantities.0 -
Just finished doing kitchen cupboards, threw away quite a bit of ood store cupboard items 😬 most being baking things such as treacle and syrup, as I used to bake with dgson as it was a pleasant pastime to make my coeliac friendly cakes with him. Unfortunately now he's a 10 year old things like that have less of an appeal. Plus it's better for my waist line!😇 does anyone else look at an date on something and think I've not had it sooo long !!! Where does time go?
Need to finish my lunch as hairdresser coming to kondo my hair .
Fen 1 I also have hypothyroidism, but luckily don't have problems as I'm on thyroxine. I was fit and healthy till I turned 40 😱 I count my blessings as there's worse things happen at sea !
Thanks to the kind person that mentioned the magnet for your knicks it sounds good from the reviews though at £32. I will hold off for now as knowing me I'd drop it down the loo 1st time on 😂Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0
