I cut meat with scissors on to a plate, which then goes into the dishwasher (along with the scissors). The two or three chopping boards are then used for whatever, I don't worry about it too much, tho always chop onions on the same one.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I use scissors to chop raw meat too .much easier than a knife.

I've got 7 chopping boards - one is a proper breadboard, the other 6 are all toughened frosted glass - 4 small square and 2 worktop saver size and all double as pot stands as they're heat resistant. The glass ones go in the dishwasher. I did have a range of fancy trivets for the table for hot bowls/pans but they went in one of the first culls when I realised the glass boards would double up. They look nice enough to use to serve on too if we're entertaining so no need for a cheese board etc.

i rounded up all the wandering scissors this week as they do have a place to live but all seemed to have gone on a jaunt. 17 pairs of scissors in various shapes and sizes were found, all have been kept.

I've kondod Christmas cards as they've come in (can't stand the ruddy things) so I've opened, read and then cut out the required pretty bit for next years parcel tags and popped the remaining card in the fire lighting pile. I've got a sandwhich bag pegged to the side of the fridge to pop the tags in as I make them and when done I'll pop them in the box with the wrapping paper and ribbons etc. I'm being very organised.

:p Can I just say THANK YOU for this? I've long disliked Xmas cards but thought there must be something wrong with me and that I'm a bad person. I now consider that if Pooky can do it, I can, too.

I will sling them into the recycling bin, apart from a very beautiful handmade card (unchristmassy) from a printmaker friend, which will be treasured. I keep his cards as bookmarks, they are so joyful. The rest can go asap.

One small step towards freedom. And I will be wandering a couple of streets over to the very reasonably priced antiquish emporium to help out the pal this morning. There is paperwork to sort out, plus I found some things in his cellar which have now gone out on the shop floor - one had already sold.

If there's time, I may go truffling underground in that centuries-old cellar again, to see what I can drag out into daylight. Such fun.

Pooky, you are awesomely organised! I do that with normal mail, but xmas mail I like to leave out for a fortnight, then discard.

GQ, you make the antiquish emporium sound very exciting; I'd love to go treasure hunting with you!

:) The shop is a victorian house on a city centre street but the cellar seems to be older than the building above it. Not at all uncommon on that street which was laid out nearly 1000 years ago.

Imagine ducking under the lintel on the ground floor, and making your way down a curve of chalky steps with wooden edges as the lime plaster flakes off the walls and the mushroomy odour of the ages pemerates the air.....

Not quite King Tut's tomb, but certainly more interesting than the average home's clutter.:rotfl:

    Morning all :D

As I no longer send the dreaded Christmas cards I dont get many :rotfl:it has taken a few years for people to understand I dont send them.So dont send them to me. So this year the total is 3 so far all of which have been recycled as soon as they hit the door mat.

So ladies you are not alone in your quest to stop the world sending the bl**dy things.
I am also the same with Birthday Cards I dont put them up either. But as my Birthday is between Christmas and New year most people forget (thank goodness) :)

So my house at Christmas looks the same as any other time of the year just the way I like it ;)

GQ You will be happy to know I do have my own wheelbarrow now a full size Pink one :rotfl:Which I do get great joy from using nearly everyday.

    Enjoy your weekend everyone.

  • Pooky that is really refreshing! I haven't put any decs up this year but I keep thinking I must put the cards up. I've never asked myself why! The senders won't know if I've hung them up. I might adopt your approach.

GQ spot on (again) - when children are asked what they really want for Christmas (and at this time of year there's usually a video clip doing the rounds on Facebook) they'll say more time with their parents. If I look back at childhood Christmases it's not the gifts I recall, although a few stand out, but the experiences. From stirring the Christmas pudding to making paper chains and decorating the tree, playing cards or Monopoly with my siblings (not always harmonious!), singing carols, quizzes, and the Boxing Day Walk - happy memories that are as good as ever and require no storage, insurance or maintenance. The space hopper, dolls pram or Etch-a-Sketch (my personal desire) would be long gone.

At my DDs wedding my German cousin came over and was very impressed by how close my four dds were and how supportive of each other. He said he wished his two sons were more like that and I felt it more tactful to say that boys were different than to point out that both of them had been sent to a very famous boarding school in Scotland, rather than living at the parental home all year.

I have ordered some crackers to pull and some wine which should arrive next week. I just have some stocking sweets to buy along with savoury biscuits, smoked salmon, cheese etc.

Two dds are staying over from Thursday or Friday for a few days and really looking forward to it :j

:) One of the fond memories of previous Christmasses is the first of the three we shared with an eccentric rescue cat called Mitzi.

She adored being the centre of attention so, when the family had gathered around a card table to play Scrabble, what could be more logical than to plonk herself right in the middle of the board, to be the centre of attention?

I can still see her almost smiling with pleasure at being in the heart of the family. She wouldn't be dissuaded either, and kept returning to the board so we could only continue the game by holding her on our laps, and passing her around like pass the parcel.

    Bless.:rotfl:

I didn't venture into the cellar today but I did possick around in the upstairs rooms and found some interesting Stuff which I cleaned out and put on display. Am now off out gardening - laters, GQ x
