I grew up in a house, with no Ch, or carpets, the ground floor was terrcotta tiles laid on earth!
Mavymoo good luck xx i am off the following day, so would have come up to help, I am up tomorrow on my long drive but won't have time to stop by.
Thank you Kaz
I have twisted a few arms behind backs so have a bit of help thank you
We also had terracota tiles laid on earth in our hallway and the times I slipped (wearing socks) on it and smacked my head  It was always freezing and Mum always polished it with an old hoover floor polisher with that carninal red stuff on the pads.Which is why it looked so shiny and slippy

Oooh you lot - I'm a much maligned baby boomer - tiled floors, coal fire, metal framed windows that iced up on the inside, going to bed in nightie, socks and cardigan, no phone or car but I was loved, clothed and fed and educated -bl**dy luxury!!!!
First house was a little bungalow costing £3400 - as I was under 21 the mortgage co wouldn't take my wages into consideration. We had cast offs to furnish and the previous owner left the cooker and small fridge and I counted myself very lucky. My 21st birthday present was a second hand washing machine from Hubby and a sewing machine from my mum & dad as first baby was on the way - different times .......
Have had a lovely weekend - Saturday afternoon was spent in a local hostelry with about 40 odd friends having our pre-christmas lunch. One of the guys plays guitar and belongs to a group and they played for us for most of the afternoon. Came home and watched recorded Strictly before going to bed. Picked up DS1 yesterday morning and went to club for breakfast and back to his house for Sunday dinner then home to watch the results! Perfect weekend with friends and family and no cooking !!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -

Didn't think I'd get any Kondoing done today but have done the following:
* tidied DS3's room - got rid of rubbish (deflated balloons etc), a pack of crayons to Shoebox appeal, 3 items of clothing to rag bag, 2 items of clothing to NNS box, 4 toys to NNS box
* contacted someone about my old UK and foreign coins (not of much value) - they are coming here tonight to look at them and hopefully make me an offer - something out and money in (hopefully!) - ETA - coins gone - few £ in the piggy bank in exchange
* recycled about a dozen bottles and jars from the garage
* listed 3 old camera memory cards on fleabay - haven't had a compatible camera for years and all photos are on hard drive, so why was I keeping the memory cards?!
* taken a full bag of items to CS including 3 new wooden bowls which I bought about 9 years ago and have been living in the garage wrapped in tissue ever since....
* posted a fleabay parcel
* listed 2 items on local fbook selling sites
* put our old vacuum in the boot of my car ready to take to the charity where I volunteer - I got rid of ours there to recycling last week as it didn't work
* sorted a pile of items from garage for taking to local recycling centre/ tip later in week
* burned some card and paper items in chiminea
Quite productive
Both OH and I came from houses with no central heating (just a gas fire in living room), single metal framed windows with ice on the inside n the winter, no phone until mid (me) late (him) teens. Gas and electric meters which you had to feed. Sometimes lack of food (always a lack of choice) on a Thurs night/ Fri morning until the wages were received on a Friday lunchtime. Whilst we want our children to appreciate the value of money we don't feel the need for them to go through what we went through! As it is, I'm still probably the last of our friends to put the heating on (making the children put a jumper on etc first) and use the tumble drier far less than most people I know.

Well, that's another thing friends say 'oh, my gas and electricity bills are so high - this house is expensive to heat'. And then their children flit through the room wearing t-shirts and shorts ... ! It's WINTER. It gets colder. Wear some warmer clothes. I
agree MMF007, there's no point in suffering the cold unless you really can't afford it, but I'm constantly having to take off a layer when I visit friends' homes as they feel positively tropical.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Indeed, I am happy to wear fleece or cardi but the heating goes on if I am cold wearing a couple of layers! Often no need for heat, even in winter, so long as I am having busy day. If more sedentary, then background heat for me! I go mad when FIL complains about being cold when he is sitting in a t-shirt with the heating on high! I have bought him a lovely jumper, hoping he will actually wear it!
Kondo'd two swimming costumes to CS ( they were happy to take them as they are immaculate).
Last of wallpaper trimmings and a few other bits to tip on the way home from work. A client has asked for more hours and I can accommodate this until another lady comes back from abroad.I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Feels like I've not popped in for a while, hope everyone is well
Kondoed a really lovely evening on friday. Dd1 & ds1s birthday pressies and ds2 & his gf Christmas pressies- we gave them tickets to frank turner concert in Coventry Dh was driving and it would be rude not to accompany them so had the most fantastic evening singing and dancing along with dd1 & Dh while the younger 3 braved the dance floor or mosh pit. It was packed to the gills and everyone had a great time we all came away very happy and the only space it's taken up is some very happy memories a few photos on a hard drive and a poster ds2 bought. Very woooooooo!
Just taken some batteries and glass down to their recycling banks and used up some fabricmaking costumes for school play and a cushion cover for mil for ChristmasSPC~12 ot 124

Had a bag to take to the CS and managed to top up with 3 pairs of DH's trousers that he hasn't worn for quite a few years, the jumper that was a bit see through and 3 scarves from my collection, another pair of my shoes and a belt that I'm too fat for! I'm itching for DH to get up in the loft for the Christmas decorations cos I'm sure there will be a big kondo there!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

We visited friends who had just had a baby, and the gifts we gave were two pairs of new socks and a good quality small cuddly toy, both of them were gifts when my dds were born, and had been unwrapped and in the attic since. I added a 10 euro note, and a bagful of dd2's dresses for their 4yr old daughter.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590

How did we all survive the none CH homes with frost on INSIDE of windows in morning  I lived with my grandparents as a small child as my parents mostly worked aborad and borading school was not where they wanted to send me ( thank goodness!) - ordinary working class household - Grandad handed over his wage packet on a Friday to Nan. We wanted for nothing and had everything we needed. No central heating one open fire in LR. No double glazing and no fridge or washing machine or car, although Grandad did have a licence and we hired a car once to go and visit my aunt when a cousin was born. I can remember the fridge arriving sometime in the 1970's and the cream dial up telephone sometime later. When Nan had to leave the house in 1999 which they had moved into on the day they were married in 1937 and which they rented from that day, their bedroom furniture which was a wedding present was still being used, the bath had never changes and looked like new, they never did have a washing machine and the cream phone was still in use in the entrance porch. I can never remember ever being cold, or feeling hungry or deprived. We ( my younger siblings joined me eventually) went to brownies/cubs/scouts/guides - walked on our own or used public transport. Sang in a choir, went away with school when we could, had dance and music lessons and great days out on bikes or buses. We had 2 coats winter and summer which were always too big or a hand-me-down and 2 pairs of shoes and a pair of wellies...... and nobody died because of any of this!!......I dont think I am remembering this through rose tinted glasses, I think life was less complicated, less immediate and instantaneous. These days people seem to know the cost of everything but the value of nothing! As Silva says we were loved, clothed cared for and educated! Patience, waiting, sharing, resilience and face to face communication were all things that came naturally..............as part of my work I now have to TEACH this to youngsters along with how to speak use the toilet and brush their teeth
