I'm relieved at the thought that the towel is possibly enjoying a dalliance with another item of linen, and not huddled limply under a railway arch in the rain. It's a beach towel so I imagine it's gone to find its natural home. I like to think of them entwined on a sun-lounger somewhere warm, having stowed away in a suitcase ...
It was a vivid pink and blue, I think it may have had the word Hawaii woven into it. It's seen a succession of cats through house moves, vet trips etc covering the cat-basket, spread out on the sofa to nurse a sick cat and sadly sometimes wrapping them for the silent journey home from the vet. I can't believe I would have Kondoed it - the colour ensured it was easily identified in the airing cupboard and never used for anything else. However perhaps the towel took matters into its own hands. It was certainly old enough to leave home - by my reckoning it's at least thirty!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
It's amazing how long beach towels last isn't it? I have a couple which came from home, one is purple with red circles on it, the other is a mixture of orange and brown stripes. Both original 1970s pieces. OH wasn't keen on them when we first met and I took them on holiday. They are now seen as being back on trend!Make £2025 in 2025

Here's to linen dalliances! Long may they continue
One of my excess towels, which has only been used about five times, is a beach towel I bought for my mum to visit here. Not for the beach, but to be spread on her pillow when she stayed - the allergies in this family, even to new pillows, are horrendous. That towel helped, it really did.
Today - no real kondoing plannedthough I may get fed up of the stuff I *do* have planned, and kondo anyway

I am still chuckling at the thought of the eloping towel and duvet cover, thankfully tea had already been consumed.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
No Kondoing here really this week, normally OH is out cycling on 2 weekdays and this is my time for pottering, Kondoing and sometimes a bit of pampering, but the weather has put the mockers on it. I really do enjoy sometime to myself at home, as does he, if I hesitate about going to my craft group on a Wednesday he practically ushers me out of the door:rotfl:
Keep warm and dry everyone:D
Maddie, you are so right! I love my 2 days at home alone!! This winter will be our first when DH has about 7 weeks off work (seasonal stuff) and i shall be at home with him for 4 out of 7 days. Previous years i have been working full time so not been around in the week. Not sure how it will work out. Don't get me wrong, we have a great time on hols being together 24/7 but this house is small and I find it much easier to get on with jobs when there is no-one interupting at a crucial moment wanting their tea cooked! In his defence, he does prepare meals sometimes but he always needs to ask what to cook (and sometimes how!) so i still get [STRIKE]mithered[/STRIKE] interupted :rotfl:
karmacat, I bet you get the KM :rotfl: today. I have other plans and yet I was 'called' by paperwork, asking to be sorted out! Have kondo'd all into appropriate files and bag for burning on woodburner.
Enjoy the day All,

I've proposed DH to clear out the small set of drawers we have in the living room. Small as in low, but it's double depth, because it used to be an under-desk set of drawers. The posh and solid CEO's desk and the other set of drawers were discarded a few years ago due to water damage and lack of space in our new house.
Top two drawers contain plugs, chargers, batteries, etc. Bottom drawer contains maps and brochures for daytrips, hikes, etc. Those I can put in a box in the study; DH has to sort the electronics. Looking forward to acquiring a smaller table/set of drawers.
I've sorted the children's books and removed about a third. I decided my dds deserve nice books, so anything damaged, without covers, or coloured-in has gone. The books now fit in 2 I'kea cubby holes - all their other books are stored at the local libraryAre you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -

Haven't started on the shoes/boots yet.....

I've been musing on presents lately. I recently had a birthday, some of my presents were great - theatre tickets booked for next year, promise of a cinema trip and a voucher towards a cookery class. I still acquired a fair bit of well-meant toot though, stationery, egg-cups (because I keep chickens I must eat a lot of boiled eggs, right?) and the like. I don't mean to sound ungrateful because it was all given with kind intentions, but - STUFF.
My friend has a new baby, and her small flat is suddenly feeling rather crowded. She said she's dreading Christmas because she knows that her loving family are going to shower the baby with gifts that she hasn't room for, and he won't care about.
It's made me reflect that not only are we all consumers of Stuff in our own right but we use possessions as a way of showing love. It's especially relevant at this time of year (another Christmas catalogue arrived today). I really loathe the words 'gift set' and 'desk toy'!
I've decided that the best gift I can give my friend's lovely baby is not to burden him with possessions. I'm not going to give anything this year. In future years, when he's old enough to understand, he'll be getting vouchers for treats, days out, trips to the park etc to be redeemed throughout the year. She's fine with that, and I'm relieved. Maybe it's time to start educating a new generation.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -

Morning!
Got a full-on day planned today, with a visit to the very-reasonably-priced-antique-ish emporium in the morning (the cellar needs kondo-ing), a flit to the allotment if it doesn't rain, and a cuppa with a pal in the afternoon.
Gosh, the things some of us will do to avoid our own housework, hey?
In that cellar is a crate of small bottles (think 25 cl size) of a product called Brandini. I queried their presence with my pal as they are nothing I've ever seen offered for sale in my whole life, and are crusty and cobwebby and have obviously been down there for ages.
Get this; they were bought for a Xmas party in about 1972, not used and have been down there ever since!:rotfl:
Pal insists that they are (probably) still perfectly drinkable. I suggested he be the one to try them as neither I nor anyone else who has had one brandished at them has been prepared to risk it. I am taking them outta there a few at a time, rinsing the crud off the bottles, opening them with a bottle opener and pouring the sacred elixir down the drain.Well, the drain is a bit slow-running, the Brandini might help clear it out a bit. It certainly improves the odour.:rotfl:
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

4 items sold on fleabay last night - all smallish in size - but all have already been paid for and will be leaving the building later - things out, money in = win:win!
Not much kondoing going on - still battling against paper and generally more is going out than coming in on a daily basis - not that you can really tell!! Probably need to step it up a gear for a couple of weeks as I'm working in the last run up to Xmas, so would like to get some KMing and also Xmas shopping done before then!
