KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up
Comments
-
DD and SlL are popping over soon so have had a quick tidy round.
The pizza dough that should have taken 45 minutes in the breadmaker has so far been turned on and off three times and reset a couple of times Grhh  I think my breadmaker is starting to play up! I have had it for years so if it is cream crackered I will keep my eyes out in the sales.
DD and friend built me a slim narrow bookcase in my bedroom so things could be put away or displayed properly. They are also going to try to sort out my new sliding wardrobe when they get the spare parts. I have a rather flimsy set of plastic shelves that will do to store toiletries and might get SIL to help me assemble my new steam cleaner this afternoon.
I need to go for a blood test tomorrow morning and then either go shopping with a dd or tackle the storage area in the integral garage.
I kondoed some home made and frozen meals to dds yesterday and have a new spare mug holder in chrome so will see if dd fancies it.
Not quite the kondo spirit but I saw a good sale online and have ordered a smart/ casual black jacket, three smart tops , two pairs of long length jeans and a lovely blue dress with sleeves. It came to about £100 for the lot and anything that does not fit and spark joy will be returned sharpish. I have already kondoed my wardrobe twice so think the buy is justified.
My new slim chest of drawers is not only pretty but means my old one is now under the stairs holding neatly folded bedding, table linen etc. All items inside are matched, sorted and folded so easily identified."This site is addictive!"

Nettle farm................. :rotfl:
Hauled a large canvas mail bag type of bag out of the Workshop which was full of socks. These had randomly been shoved in the Workshop when some space had to be created indoors last summer for the central heating engineer. And left there for 12 months. It's a miracle mice didn't set up housekeeping in it.
Anyway, upshot is Mum and I have been sitting in the back garden matching up socks from the mail sack with socks from two carrier bagfuls of odd socks from her bedroom and we now have a lot of matched socks (some fairly loosely matched, it must be said) and a large carrier bag of socks which are both odd and worn out ( I empathise with the feeling most days). These are going for textile recycling via the chazzer.
Also found a bottle of tomato food under the sink, gotta be 20 years old. Poured it into their compost bin and have washed and recycled the container.
I am now owed a cuppa.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

DH and I spent a jolly hour in the understairs cupboard. We know how to whoop it up!
Two pairs of shoes and a pair of fuzzy-lined snow boots to go to recycling. Shoes for next week's holiday put ready to pack, two pairs of DH's cleaned and stored for the winter, a lightweight pair put out to wear for the rest of the week.
I have a bag (full!) to put away upstairs. Oh the joy of eternal optimism - I keep thinking that I have found THE pair that will suit my dodgy feet. And then they don't, but only after about 2 wearings. And then, suddenly a pair will be great for a few weeks ..... I hate what RA has done to my feet. Still, if I check regularly I should get good wear out of most of them - eventually. The only footwear that gives me constant and continual joy are my slippers.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Edge of nettle farm now covered in iris leaves and roots plus gunk they had been collecting. I was diverted from hot gardening to weeding the stream. It's a lot wider now, and I've just had a shower as I need to hang the washing out. I'd like it to stay clean, and as I had mud up to my hair a shower seemed necessary.
I now deserve a cold drink, a biscuit, and a sit down in the sunshine with my book!0 -
Off to the CS with my last remaining but quite bulky laundry basket. I prefer to use a couple of attractive polypropylene carriers, one shows the Bayeux tapestry and is for hanging out laundry, the other is turquoise, blue and white which goes well in my bedroom and is for clothes needing washed. Both fold up nicely when not in use.
I also kondo'd some kitchen utensils which I'll never use, given to me years ago by a friend who emigrated. A thing for scraping off flour and pastry, brand name Graham Kerr, the Galloping Gourmet. A pair of plastic tongs and a pie funnel. An avocado slicer. I don't eat wheat and avocados make me unwell... what was I thinking of??
I'm much better at saying no thank you to other people's rejects nowadays!0 -
I've often thought, whilst wrestling with the allotment; At least I don't have to weed streams, unlike greenbee.
Have drawn a blank on caddy spoon hunting but have been allowed to take a old EPNS jam spoon, not matching any other piece of cutlery on the premises, away to serve the same purpose.
Have taken a huge cutlery tray out of the living room sideboard (they have three of these things) and pawed through the random kipple in there among the eating irons. Gone are two candle stubs and a bit of ribbon (I've got them) but the playing cards have had to go back.
Yes, more playing cards. We have more playing cards than the average Las Vegas casino and no one can account for why...... Oi! Justin! Don't think I can't see you sidling off trying to look all innocent..........!
I have now been told I can't pull anything more about this visit. I will be back here in a couple of weeks, tho. My poor, long-suffering parents.:DEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Shed kondoed at parents' this weekend. It's only a small shed but the plant pots must have been breeding in there. About 40% of contents were removed for re-using at village plant sale. We also picked various edibles for freezing. Also kondoed my bike out of the garage, it's been there for 8 years so its come back home with me for selling which will happen this week whilst I'm on hols. I have some more furniture to list so that'll go up on teabay this week too.
I've just written out a list of categories to help focus efforts this week. Should keep me out of mischief for a while!
Sounds like everyone's having a productive weekend, well done all. I like that people are taking time for restorative cuppas, biscuits etc in the sunshine! Post shed sorting relaxing was with a mojito here! Very indulgent for a Sunday afternoon "Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

Luxor, have you got proper orthotics for your feet? Not the off-the-shelf things, but properly moulded orthotics? You should be able to get them through the NHS, though I went privately ( I couldn't stand, let alone walk, was tied to a wheelchair in constant agony, but the NHS funded b*ggr all. Hey ho. But that's a different story)
Orthotics got me back on to my feet. Literally. I don't have RA, but it's worth trying.
Getting orthotics privately ain't cheap, but are a damned sight cheaper than constantly buying new pairs of shoes and being in pain.0 -

Thank you for your message, I'm glad you found comfort.
The RA causes my joints or/ and soft tissue to swell so my feet vary in size and width. I have a lovely turquoise and white set of orthotics which I use in my boots - when I can get my boots on.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Day off and nothing kondoed apart from a chicken (roasted) and lots of vegetables with the peelings going directly to the rabbits, so no waste there.
But other than normal rubbish and recycling, nothing has left.
Might have to list a pile of DVDs on Music Magpie or similar, as these are in a box forming part of the hall heap. Tried fleabay with a couple of unwanted new ones but received no bites, sadly. Has anyone tried Music Magpie recently ? Thought I might give it a shot before donating them.
Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0
