I did some kondoing last night as I took all the containers out of my toiletries/makeup drawer and cleaned the containers and put the stuff I used back and got rid of a few things.

I then did the same with my husband's box of toiletries and managed to find some more stuff to bin.:)

My dad's 75th birthday party was very enjoyable! Some background story: my (adopted) sister decided to kondo my parents out of her life two years ago, and as a consequence, me. It turns out to be a good thing for all parties; we have never had such a relaxed family event.

It may seem a bit harsh, but it isn't, really. My parents decided to adopt when they could not have any kids, then during the process I came along naturally. My sis was 3.5 when she came and we have always been real sisters. She found it difficult to come to peace with the fact that her parents gave her up (I don't think anyone ever can), and was terrified of anything happening to her without her consent ever again. She is a very forceful lady. The relationship with my parents has had its ups and downs, but always ended up well. The downturn came when I got a partner at age 35, got married, and had kids, which my parents looked after occasionally. Suddenly, my parents did not have their sole attention on her, and she did not like it. She forbade my dd to come to sis' birthday party when my dd was only 2 (I was highly pregnant, and grandparents were going to take her), for taking too much attention away from her kids. She insulted my youngest for a solid hour when she visited us in hospital straight after I gave birth. She had not planned to come, but last-minute changed her mind.

It's been very calm not having her in my life, but I miss her terribly.

Sort of Kondoing done - my friend finally managed to visit me to get in the loft to see if the kidney shaped dressing table was what she wanted - yes!!! She's waiting for her DS to move out (he's getting married) & she'll then have room for it. Not a problem as I've been storing it for at least 20 years. In the course of conversation I said we would be getting rid of my dining suite & when I saw her yesterday she wants the large sideboard/ glass display cabinet - yipeee!!! She may also help in rehoming the huge dining table and six chairs through her work. Not gone but an exit strategy.

Siebrie, I'm glad the party was so great, but the whole thing about your adopted sister sounds really painful :(

I want to do a bit in the garden today, but there's some very easy kondoing in my ex-counselling room that I can do, and give myself a prize when its done :rotfl:

As DS1 was running round replacing furniture after yesterday's party I had an inspiration - instead of returning a couple of chairs upstairs my uncomfortable and distinctly in-joyous sewing table chair (it is wobbly and has been repaired twice) is now out to go to the tip, and one of the bedroom chairs is in its place.
Why didn't I do that sooner?

Going to have a go at selling some stuff on FB - never done it before but it looks easy enough.

2 large bin bags ready to go to CS tomorrow morning and another couple of items waiting collection by a freegler. Too nice to day to be indoors so I am out in the garden for rest of day - house looks a tip but hey ho!!

:) When the weather is fine one has to garden. The housework will always be there, and can be got to (or avoided ;)) at any time.

Had a lazy start to the day and Mum and I ambled to the supermarket for a few bits, including some veggies for me to take home, as won't be in until nearly 10 pm tonight and had to run the supplies of fresh veggies down ahead of my four-day absence.

    Some classic convos.

Me; You won't need to buy any more fabric conditioner for a while, there are three and half bottles under the sink.

Mum But I don't use fabric conditoner.

*Joint visit to the sink, hauling out bottles of blue jollop*

Mum That's not fabric conditoner, that's liquid detergent for when I do 30 degree washes. You can tell because it has the number of washes on the front.

I peer at the label, which doesn't say fabric conditioner (or liquid detergent) until I turn the bottle over and see the label there says fab con. and show it to Mum. She starts falling about laughing as she's been 'laundering' clothes in this stuff for quite a while.:rotfl:

Am just taking five whilst the half of the undersink cupboard I have emptied and cleaned dries out. Couldn't do both halves at once as there was a person using the sink and blocking the other side.

The Shelf in the broom cupboard hasn't fallen off the wall yet and is looking very good with all the cleaning products lined up neatly by type. The Bedroom Cupboard of Doom (as was) and the big-cupboard-which-used-to-be-a-wardrobe in the Off-Room have retained orderliness and usability, too.

Drop in the oceans of clutter here, but every little helps, to quote the woman who pertiddled in the sea.

Good luck GQ... I was going to do some housework, but it's not raining, so I think I should do some more slash and burn (well not burn... dump on the nettle farm opposite me) in the garden. If I can get enough cleared and tidied I might actually be able to do some planting sometime this autumn...

I need to cut the hedge too, but that could wait until the neighbours complain ;)

We have just spent a couple of hours opening boxes, stored in a built in cupboard that had a chair in front of it, oh found a suit he had bought a few years ago but he had put it there as it was too tight, now fits. So that's off to the dry cleaners.
I found my wedding dress and a load of cards from when we got married thirty years ago. I still have the husband, so the rest can go.

We then set about organising the rooms, I am going to move our wardrobes into the spare room and create some light and space in our room. New floor and wallpaper. It's going to become a welcoming restful area.
