KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Morning all, hope everyone is as well as can be.
Ds2s Ncs group organised a meal and quiz last night, I Kondoed a unused still boxed knife and chopping board set I'd been given but didn't need as a prize. He said it was a good night, local Indian restaurant agreed to let them host a meal there and split the takings for the night.
They are selling cakes in a bank foyer in town today, dd3 has made them a load of cakes and biscuits decorated with red crosses.
Plan today is to clear the ironing and bag up the martial arts suits that have come through the wash so they can go to the CS at the weekend.
I might use some of my crafting stuff to make a fish to take with me for the carnival when I go on holiday. (As spotted in the carnival programme)
Do something today that brings you joy.SPC~12 ot 124

Mavvy - I too feel very blessed with my life. Today DH & I are going to a wedding of some dear friends not in their first flush of youth. We are all so happy for them & I'm really looking forward to it as it will be in the open air and she has made up picnic baskets for the lunch. She did a beautiful birthday tea for her mum earlier this year all with mismatched floral China. She's very inventive and manages to do it on a shoestring! Just hoping the weather will improve as its drizzling a bit at the moment.
Took my friend shopping yesterday - I did buy a pair of leather loafers in MS reduced from £39 to £15 and found a £5 voucher I've had for about 6 months filed neatly in my purse - bargain! My friend was also looking at small bags that were smart backpacks. I had a new one at home I've never used so that's been Kondoed to a good home.
Hope everyone has a good day today xxSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Gave the stuff the CS rejected to a friend who is moving house shortly. She's not sure whether she'll need it, but if she doesn't she will drop it off at her local CS. So that's another problem solved.
Raining today, so I need to get some work done instead of avoiding it by mowing and sawing up the remaining bits of the staircase to fit them in my car.
But first I need to deal with my car insurance, house insurance, mobile phone contract and electricity provider - all of which appear to be due at the same time!0 -
Just a thought, would a separate thread be appropriate for kondo-ing weight? I am pretty sure that not everyone on the thread, or reading the thread, wants to lose weight. Obvs I'm happy to have it here (guilty of banging on about it already!), but how do others feel?
Am very happy for kondoing weight to stay on this thread as it is part of the full Kondo experience and seems to be a natural progression for many.
Remember the lady I told you about who brought the clothes to give people a chance at interviews etc.
She contacted me yesterday on the dreaded FB and linked me to her fundraising page
To say I felt ashamed was an understatement
She helps everybody who needs it.
I am going to meet up with next week and my god I am going to help this women in which ever way I can. She and her (customers) are proud you can just tell.So I will give her some clothes /kitchen bits etc to start with and take it from there.
When I read her page I am so so lucky and there for the grace of god go I .

Mav, no need to feel ashamed at all - look at what you have also done for others with the time and effort you put into your local village fundraising events and your latest venture which is creating a win, win, win all round. None of us can single handedly put right the wrongs in the world however we can all do a bit and each bit adds up to become a lot, IYSWIM.
I am unable to give of my time and energy at the moment so give money regularly to a local winter homeless shelter, a monthly donation of food to a food bank, donating things to CS rather than binning and books to local NT property secondhand bookshop and buy books to read from there as well which are then re-donated when read.
When my own life is in a better state I shall go back to giving time as well. In the meantime I will continue with donations and know that that is all I can do for now.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
Mav, you already do so much so throw away that guilt young lady!
My son passed his driving test today, first attempt, so shall be Kondoing his provisional license! :T
More delays with house move. The state of my home is driving me nuts - boxes everywhere, not one tidy room.
Few more bits in the charity bag. One was a bridesmaid dress from my wedding 24 years ago. Time to let it go, it'll probably go in their rag bag because dresses are more streamlined these days but it's been in a suitcase all these years so no use but I do still love it.Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

That is so true! And it is easy to forget that it is better to do something small than to do nothing!
I always recall being ridiculously busy sorting out a big family event. No-one was helping, they were alll too busy enjoying themselves, but then one man walked into the kitchen and just offered to make me a cup of tea. Such a simple act but a kindness, and one I have never forgotten.
today I gave an elderly neighbour a lift to the doctor's. She was told last time that she has high blood pressure and this visit was to do a further check. She came out from the appointment relieved that her BP had come down. She said it was lovely to be chauffeured there and she was sure that had helped her BP (although DH said my driving makes his BP skyrocket :rotfl:). It took
only little of my time and was a fairly short journey but it did make a positive difference to someone today.
I remembered someone on KM thread previously saying they often relived bad experiences from years ago, so now I am determined to relive happy events and kind actsAll part of the joy
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Being away from home for 6 days, poorly for several and busy for the last few means that my paperwork has not been touched:(
After searching for silver ear rings to match an outfit this morning I found all my jewelry in a terrible muddle, both "good" and costume stuff, so I am going to divert my attention to this for a while, particularly as I did not find any silver ear rings or the pot that contains my wedding, engagement and several dress rings, none of them fit and I intend to get one or two enlarged and sell the rest if they ever come out of hiding:o
There will be lots to go to CS and several home made pieces will be broken up and the beads etc reused, either by me or passed on to someone who will have fun with them. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
I have sorted almost two heaped shoeboxes of documents into just a half one. What spurred me on was that I am sure I have four dentist's bills still unsubmitted somewhere in that pile.
