:p Sounds like a never-ending project, siebrie, but at least you've caught up with the backlog.

I've been to the allotment for watering the cold frame and have harvested two bunches of mixed salad/ herbs, one to give to a pal tomorrow. Currently sitting in water in the kitchen to keep them fresh.

Am packing the proverbial spotted hanky for the weekend and have added two books which will be gifts for my Dad later in the year and I will hide them up in the homestead. Also have some packaging materials for the kid bruv which will mean a few less items around the flat.

:o Hi, my name is GQ and I have a serious bubble-wrap and padded envelope habit. I don't use them myself, honest guv.

Have kondo-folded the last rack of dried clothes into the drawers to make room for the wash which has just come out of the machine. How easy and fast it becomes with a little practise and how sublime it makes packing a bag to go away - just grab & go.

Hope everyone is having a joyous evening - I am about to have some hot roast beef, which is very lovely.

    One more day of builders...

Heating will be back on tomorrow. Full blast for 4 days, so expect a heatwave :)

They've got lots of odds and ends to do - sealant in the bathroom now the underfloor heating controls are in, window and door furniture now they are all painted, finishing off the bookcases that have replaced the balustrade round the landing (I'll have to buy more books ;)), painting the rest of the walls and varnishing the floors. The landing floor needs 3 coats so they're going to have to get a move on.

I need to catch up on work.

Greenbee, you don't NEED to fill up bookcases, you have permission to leave some free space!

I do :) I've re-read everything I've got way too many times. I haven't been buying because I've been so short of space for them. And I've got rid of lots as well. I miss them.

The housework conversations remind me of the story at the front of my 'Superwoman' (Shirley Conran) book. To paraphrase (book is probably somewhere on this bed) Man walks in to find his wife sat at the kitchen table with her feet up, eating chocolates. Every surface is covered with dirty pots and pans, cat is on the worktop, eating something and two toddlers are trying to throttle each other. Wife says 'I thought the best way to show you what I do all day, was not to do it'.

Builders started hacking plaster off the walls yesterday (damp proof course repair). Filled 8 rubble sacks (from my stash even thought hey had brought some of their own). Loaded them into their car when the injecting was done. I asked if they were going to the tip, they were. So I asked if they would take the electrical waste for me:j:j:j about 20 items (one potato sack and half a rubble sack) have left the building (collected slowly over about 3 years as I refused to dump it in the bin):j:j:j.

The boiler man stopped to chat with Mr and Mrs Builder and to ask for directions (he lives about 10 miles away and hadn't realised the lady he was to visit didn't live here, but in a village 7 miles away). He came in to see what they were doing and I asked for advice on a problem with the boiler. He fixed it for me and wouldn't take any money.

Plasterer can't come until next Wednesday so I'm going to try getting myself back up the ladder and make a start on painting DS3's room in the next few days. If I can get it done, I've already asked Mrs Builder about getting the laminate floor man out to do that (more expense and disruption but easier to get it all done whilst he is away rather than later in the year).

Laminate floor man (I never got to know what his name was) is good but only works when he needs the money - the builders had to round him up and bring him lashed to the car bumper when he did some work at the old house.

AS it was threatening to rain yesterday I put all the quilts and pillows in bin bags and stored them on top of the stacked furniture in DS3's room.

Chipping away at the boxes and small handfuls of paperwork are leaving all the time. More things (flannels you can see through, old pillowcases - discovered I was doubled up on some items as there was still a pile of white linens in one of the top boxes in DS3's room)

My sack of onions needed tackling so sat chopping and put away nine boxes of blanched onions in the freezer yesterday (about 8 small onions in each box) and a bag of sprouting tips in the fridge to use as spring onions. Followed by 2 boxes of chopped carrots. I have now filled up all the freezer space freed up by getting DS2 to take away DS3's ice cream stash.

    :) Morning all.

Blinking heck, mothernerd, you must run on duracell batteries! Respect! I was chuckling at the thought of Mr and Mrs Building kidnapping the Laminate Man and bringing him to your previous home.

Had a chat with Mum on the phone last night and she brought up The Off Room. We discussed why the cupboard is situated where it is (at the dead end in front of the door that used to be the other door of the coal bunker, and facing into The Off Room and thus facing into the kitchen). I'd always wondered why it wasn't on the side-wall under the deep shelves on brackets, which would mean it faced the sideboard which is where the coal bunker itself used to be.

Turns out that there may not be a real reason and that I have tentative approval to try turning it around by 45 degrees and seeing how it works.

:o As a young child, I was forbidden to rearrange furniture in my own bedroom, something I liked to do pretty frequently in pursuit of the optimal living arrangements. So, I used to sometimes sneak upstairs whilst the folks were watching TV, put a chest-of-drawers across the door (so they couldn't stop me even if they twigged what I was doing) and re-arrange to my heart's content.

My room was small and contained a 4 ft divan, which I became expert at putting thru 33 point turns.:rotfl:

I think The Cupboard would be better on the side wall as it would stop the dreadful habit of accumulations of Stuff on the floor in front of its doors which prevent them being accessed. And now, I have permission in principle to try it. This is great because the last time I floated this idea a year or so ago, I got my head bitten off.

I'm getting a lift with a pal to the hometown after w*rk and we won't have finished eating until about 6 pm, but I have intent to start into The Off Room right away, at least doing a preliminary fossick amongst Stuff on the floor/ surfaces. Then there will be no time until mid-late Saturday afternoon due to visiting my Nan.

    Can't wait!
