Reclining Chairs / Sofas

If you have one how long have you had it and have you had to have any repairs done to the metal frame work in that time?

Any brands to avoid?

I've had swivel recliners for years. Never had one that had a problem with the metal parts. However, I have had trouble with the fabric that purported to be leather. Absolute rubbish, I actually measured the thickness of the last one before I threw it out. The thickness was 0.15mm, so thin that it could have been sprayed on the backing. I've now bought a new chair from HSL after going to their local show room and physically examining the leather.
Of course it did cost a lot more than the previous ones, which were bought on line.
We have an old leather sofa which is probably 20years old and still looks fine. I think that with leather you obviously get what you pay for.
I suspect that a lot of people don't keep furniture very long before it's replaced for fashion or trend reasons.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

We bought a 3 seater sofa, with the two outside seats reclining.
Bought it from DFS or somewhere like that.
After looking at the physical product in their showroom we decided to have the thicker leather option it was a few hundred ££ more but has been well worth it.
Had it 4 or 5 years now & its still like new.
Only thing that we regret is that we did not have the electric recline option.
Its a bit of a pain having to 'kick back' the leg support as you fold it back.
To be honest I would retro fit the recliner motors if I could find them cheap somewhere !!

I have Ekornes ones; I bought them 2nd hand via ebay.

The only negative about them is that the seats are shaped, so they're not so comfortable to lie along.

Avoid lazyboy from scs. The leather rubs and they offer to fix it with leather paint!

We have leather manual recliners that we bought from Cousins in Manchester. They are 3 years old and still in excellent condition. A month after we bought them we found one side was so stiff we were struggling to kick back the chair from recline. Cousins sent a sub contractor out who altered the setting and all was fine. He told us He repaired all makes and Cousins were good quality. He advised us never to get motorised recliners as they easily burn out. We chose manual as we didn't want trailing wires.

We have manual recliners on our leather sofa and it's all in good working order after around six years heavy use. We wouldn't get a recliner sofa again though - as another poster said they are really uncomfortable to lie along and I miss being able to cuddle up to OH when we settle down to watch a film. Plus we've had a few heart stopping moments when the cat has sneaked underneath while the sofa is reclined, risking trapping them in the mechanism as the recliner is pushed back into place.

    and small children...

my son trapped his ankle in my mother's mechanical reclining chair this xmas - very difficult to release him as any movement of the person sitting on the chair (my mother) tightened the mechanism on his foot - quite scary for him (and us).
  • We bought two 2 seater recliners from DFS in October 2013. They are a kind of suede type material and cost about £500 each in one of their sales. We love them, everything works perfectly and the fabric is still like new.

Recliners are a great option for a smaller space. 4 of us can get stretched out on the recliners which we couldn't do otherwise.

Our neighbours have recliners from Harvey's bought about 4 years ago for a similar price. They have had no issues with theirs either.
