HELP!!! applied for UTR in early December

So have you worked out exactly the figures you are going to file? You have 30 days and over 9 hours to figure that out. The chances of your UTR taking longer than that are remote so!! Take a breath, and get yourself prepared. If you ARE prepared then even if it doesn't arrive until the 31st you can still do it.
Not strictly true - the OP has another step once the UTR arrives as they need to register for an online activation PIN. This is sent in the post.

But as someone above says, HMRC should give 3 months from when they issue the notice to submit.0 -
got the UTR went online to start the ball rolling and.... no. still cant do it because of the above problem, I thought tax didn't have to be taxing? this seems like an exercise in giving civil servants jobs to do. the whole thing could be done in one sitting in my opinion with one letter.
so anyway ive got a digital spread sheet of what weve spent out, which is fairly simple as its BTL, and I'm now waiting for the next letter from the HMRC.0 -

The whole process is this involved to protect only one person - you - from identity theft. Just imagine how you'd feel if some scroat managed to clone your identity with the HMRC.
Think of the chaos they could cause you and how long it would take to unravel it with the acceptance of the HMRC - which, generally, is in short supply.
Tax isn't taxing once you've set up your account and begun filing returns. If you'd applied for the UTR a little earlier, maybe it wouldn't have been as taxing?0 -
I cant see as the 2 letter system protects me anymore than a single letter. if someone clones my details then uses there address the next letter I'm now waiting for will still goto that address.0

How long did it take for the UTR to arrive?0
