Bank charges from 6+ yrs

A friend is suggesting I try to reclaim bank charges from years ago, when I was continually having problems with being charged between £20- £40 for going overdrawn etc because she has successfully got money back herself. However, I don't think I have had any bank charges in the past 6 years, we are probably talking 6 - 12 years ago when I was having difficultly keeping on top of things and as far as I can find out from various websites, you can only claim for the past 6 years. Is it pointless me trying or has anyone had any success with reclaiming from so far back?

On what basis is your friend suggesting that you should ask for the money back? (remember that the banks won the court case in 2009. So, you cant reclaim "unfair" bank charges any more).
Are you in CURRENT financial hardship?
Do you bank with the same bank now?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Yes I'm still with the same bank. I am still skint all these years on but I'm in better control of it now than I was, so don't think I've defaulted on anything for years, so I consider the worst of it to be over, I'm now just steadily clearing debts but not adding to them if you get what I mean.
Like I say, she has successfully claimed hers back over the past few years so keeps insisting I do the same because for years I was sinking financially, continually trying to pay off bank charges for going overdrawn etc but I think I've missed the boat on that score tbh especially after reading some of the info on this forum.0 -
You can only ask the bank to refund on current hardship cases and incorrect application. If you think you could make a case for hardship then give it a go. If its using the "unfair" method, then that ship has sailed.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I'm in the same position and surely would still be in hardship if still struggling even if not as bad?0
