Hi
April 2014 my tradesman installed a bathroom suite , including a riser shower (MIRA)
I purposely bought that brand as i had read they were good quality
I am disappointed to see that their looks like rust coming from within the unit , see pictures attached
Is this usual after a short period of time , and if so , any ideas how to rectify , dismantle it and soak it in coke?!
I can see from underneath what looks like a little hole , that doesnt look like it has any way of using it to open but i`m hoping it takes a small allen key ?

Any advice welcome
thanks

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Its not the shower its the installation
This shower is all brass with a brass fixing plate on the rear, grub screws are stainless and Mira provide stainless steel fixings screws . Unfortunately it looks like the installer has discarded these and replaced with plain coated steel itemsHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -

Thanks for your reply Andy , how can you tell that the back plate , and screws are not the ones provided?
surely the shower shouldnt have brass couloured fixings when the shower is stainless steel?
i am assuming i am misunderstanding you so apologies in advance!Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
The rear is sealed, its the screws - experience tells me!
The shower is chromed brass/gunmetal
Isolate the water , remove the grub screw and loosen the 2 supply compression nuts
We never use anything other than stainless screws in the wet areasHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
Thanks Andyhop
I have noticed that the installer has ran a ring of sealant (poorly) around the back plate , so it looks like water has got into behind the back plate and rusted the poor screws the installer has used
sound about right?
I wonder why he would have done that , i suspect he isnt going to be too forthcoming if i apporoach him after all a year and a half anyway now
never mind , thanks for your advice , much appreciatedNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
It shouldnt have silicone around the back plate . I sometimes put a dab of silicone over the screwheads
Take a look at the instructions online , think that's a Mira element and a PDF will be on miras websiteHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
theres 100% a ring of silicone going around the back part which is coming out the wall , i was just assuming that as it had failed , water had got inside the part itself , but you say its sealed so i wonder why the silicone is there at all!Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0
