Sharm El Sheikh Dlemma

Hi guys, really don't know where I stand legally, I booked to go to Sharm in April with Fleetway Travel, I paid £700 deposit and the balance is due on the 28th January, but now all flights have been cancelled until at least 24th March, I have already tried to change my booking but they class it as a new booking so I would lose the deposit, I don't know where I stand about paying the balance, because the flights may not operate on my travel date in April, and to be honest even if they do, I don't know if I would feel safe in going, anybody got any advice please, thank you.

Speak to your travel insurance company (you should have bought this at time of booking), to see if they cover this eventuality.
  • AFIK The only airline that is scheduled to fly out in Jan at the moment is Monarch. So if the airline have cancelled then you should be able to get a full refund.

If your flight is eventually cancelled they will have to refund you or offer a (perhaps better) alternative. Wait and see, for now.

the current situation implies that the airlines believe that the issues with Sharm airport will be resolved to allow them to commence operations again in March.
If the flights are back on and the FCO do not advise against travel then choosing not to travel will not be covered by your travel insurance
If you pay your balance (I guess to avoid losing the deposit already paid) and the flights do not operate or FCO state no travel then you would receive a full refund/alternative
