I've been meaning to upgrade since my last one got damaged through battery leakage. All I have at the moment is my moble's comparatively weak one.
The last one I had was a budget one I found a link to on here, think there was a list of budget cameras or something, it was ok but didn't do great landscape pics of scenery and so forth.
I don't know much about photography and although I would like an SLR type camera I know they;re out of my price range. I would like something quite powerful that could take shots of sports events close up, or of scenery like hills and not coming out looking like something insignificant in the distance rather than the stunning image I see with my own eyes. Does that make sense?

Canon Ixus 275 has good reviews - John Lewis, Argos £99-£1080

If you can stretch to £130 then the Canon SX530 HS Bridge camera would be ideal. It isn't quite an SLR but comes close and has a 50x zoom lens.
Currently discounted to £149 at John Lewis but Canon are also giving £20 cashback on this particular model.

The Canon cashback is only with specific retailers but John Lewis (JLP) is one of them.
Hope this helps0 -
I bought this one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3386776.htm
It's pretty crap! No more effective really than my bog standard camfone.
I just want a camera that will take pictures of mountain scenery, for example, that will look similar to how I see it from my own eyes, not like I just retreated four hundred yards or more! How does one get a camera suitable for this?0 -
