flights to the USA

Hi

I am trying to plan a holiday in Boston and New York for the beginning of June - looked at the prices and it is around £710 to fly into Boston and out of new York.

When is the best time to book to get the lowest prices. I have been hanging off as I thought there would be sales on. Is this the best price I am going to get?

any experience/knowledge gratefully received.

The best time is when it is at a price you feel comfortable with. The cost of flights to the US has risen considerably over the past two years. There are still a few bargains to be had but when these are likely to be offered is very hit and miss.

Multi stop journeys via a hub say in Europe, may give you a cost benefit, but the time involved needs to be considered. In addition you also have to be aware of delays and missing connections. A missed connection on a booked through ticket will be managed by the airline, but you will incur the time consequences and any knock on effect on your vacation plans.

As with any ticket you must be book when you feel the price is right for you and then do not be tempted to keep checking!
  • As an example of how cheaper some flights to the USA are try searching from Dublin.

    from where?
many of the answers you get may assume London could be different answers if you are elsewhere

As has been stated from Where and When?

BA have a sale now though I see prices are stupid after 22nd June

IMHO there will be at least one sale before June (usually end of March) that will bring prices down to sensible levels which should be about £400 ish (Total guessing from previous years :) )
  • Hi - Thanks for the responses - I have been looking at direct flights from London - 4th June to Boston return from new York 14th June.

I did look at non direct flights which are cheaper, however as headpin points out that raises a lot of concerns i.e. length of time, missing connections etc etc.

It does seem expensive, hence the questions, should i buy now or are they likely to go down in price considering it is still 6months away

    thanks

both Virgin and Delta are offering direct flights both ways on your dates for £534 which is a not bad price for June
  • Caz3121 - thanks for that, have checked and now decided to change my dates to the 5th returning on the 15th and now have the fare down to £468 - I think that is the best I am going to get.

BA have daytime flights home from New York and Boston which can sometimes be priced cheaply and avoids the overnight flight which can be very tiring, I find them much easier.

    £468 is good though.
