I opened a Santander 123 current account using POA.

Relative did the same for his donor who already had two active monthly DDs that could be switched over to Santander from another account.

I'm having real trouble investing £20k for my father as his POA. The post office have shown me a cold shoulder and returned my cheque. I tried another route but that too fell by the wayside. Can anyone tell me who would be interested in this investment given that my father is 95 next week?
The post office declined the investment as I couldn't recall the maiden name of my father's mother.
Well that's not quite the same thing.

I think we mostly assumed the PO had cold shouldered you either because they don't accept any POAs or they would not recognise yours.

In fact you are now saying this was an ID issue - which can happen on any application, POA or not.

Though I agree it's a strange question to ask a POA - I'd refer you my post above about call centres not understanding what to do.

Did they think it was going to be your account? Did they know you had PoA for someone else? It seems an unlikely question to confirm your identity.

They had all the details of my POA. I asked them if we could formalise another way of alleviating their concerns.

If you were opening a new account, this is likely to be a security question needed to operate the account. The Post Office doesn't know the maiden name of your father's mother, they just want to know what answer you will give to that question. Provided you remember your answer, you can choose any name you like.

That is a good point. I use a different (invented) mother's maiden name for each new account, just as a security measure.

...and I have several dates of birth, but only for those websites that have no reason to know my real dob.
