ESA renewal process

When your ESA claim is about to expire in a month or so what needs to be done to renew it? Will I automatically get all the forms and stuff explaining what I need to do?
In addition to the form will I need to resubmit all my medical notes and illness forms etc?
Will they look at it before the claim period is up and they might decide that I don't even need to renew it and they'll just extend it or what?
Thanks.

The only reason an ESA claim will 'expire' is because medical certificates aren't received when required or a claimant is found fit for work at the WCA.
In any other situation the claim will continue although after 12 months a Contributions only claim will be crediting your National Insurance for pension purposes.
I'm not sure if ESA3 forms are sent out automatically when a Conts only claim ceases to pay after 12 months. Best to call ESA and check.0 -
Please tell us what benefit you are on and why you think it is about to 'expire'.
Then we can be clearer in the help we give.0 -

I am on ESA support group and I phoned them up last month and they told me in February that "it will be up for review"
So I'm guessing when it gets reviewed I'll have to apply for an extended period or something?0 -
when they are ready ti reassess you, they will snd you an ESA50 for you to complete and return.
the time scales they give you are only approximate and you can be assessed at any time they see fit0 -

You don't need to do anything at present, and will only have to take action in the future if you are assessed as being fit for work. Your review date may be in February but that doesn't mean the review will actually happen then. Some areas are still battling a backlog of claims.
You will receive a form ESA50 at some stage, just make sure you complete and return that.0 -
My advice, ask them to tell you exactly what date it is due for reassessment.
Then wait until 2 weeks after this date...
If you have received an ESA50 return it before the deadline.
If you have not received an ESA50 then phone CHDA (Centre for Health and Disability Assessments) 0800 2888777 option 3 ... ask them if you have a live ESA referral.
If they say 'yes' ask them what date and to what address the ESA50 was sent.
If they say 'no' wait another 2 weeks and repeat the above
If after 4 weeks there is still no referral at CHDA you can phone DWP and ask why you have not been referred (if you want to) otherwise you can just keep repeating the above every 2 weeks.
To answer the point above about the ESA3 on an exhausting ESA C claim. 2 letters should be sent to the claimant the 1st about 1 month before expiry warning of the imminent expiry and advising of ESA IR. The 2nd to inform the claimant the award has now ended and to advise of ESA IR. No ESA3 will be sent unless the claimant requests it.0
