Best dry shampoo?

Hi everyone - hoping you can help me!

I currently use a branded dry shampoo once or twice a week. The last can of my stash is approaching the sputtering stage, and I will need a replacement soon.

Any thoughts on which is the best value for money without having to run the gauntlet of buying a dud?

Thanks in advance:)

I've never gotten on with dry shampoo- they all seem to make my scalp itch and though add a nicer scent than 2 day old hair (I normally wash my hair every other day as it's naturally very dry but if I miss a day I really feel it!). I don't like the feeling that I get when I use Baptise; everyone else seems to love it but my hair just feels really starchy and as if it's full of hairspray. I've tried a few of the other affordable brands from Boots and Superdrug (their own version or brands only sold at that store) but they all seem pretty similar to me, some worse than others but I didn't get on with any.

I've followed all the directions and tips on various websites and even on youtube but the versions from Baptise I just can't get on with and can't use.

But a few years ago I won a can of the Phillip Kingsley and not had a better dry shampoo. It actually did what it was supposed to do- if I had the money I'd buy this. I can't afford it though and due to Royal Mail refusing to carry aerosol cans it can't even be ordered on ebay either.

I tried Aussie and found it a little better than Baptise; nothing that made my hair feel amazing or got rid of the feeling that it needed to be washed *now* the way the Phillip Kingsley did but at least it didn't irritate my scalp in the same way.

I also got given a hand-me-down of the Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion which isn't sold as a dry shampoo (Aveda have recently launched an actual dry shampoo which I've not tried) but I used it in a similar way; it comes as a powder which you can use by squeezing the bottle onto the scalp as only a little comes out as a time, then massaging it on and brushing it out. It did help with lank-looking hair and gave me an extra day when I didn't have the time to wash my hair that evening. It did last quite a long time and if you can find it on ebay it's worth getting I think. It didn't make my hair feel like it was freshly washed but it got rid of the irritation I feel when I have not washed my hair and it did make it look a lot better. I will say though that it doesn't smell great so you'd need to be aware of this; try not to add perfume to your hair as it will dry hair and also fade your hair if you have added colour due to it's high alcohol content.

Batist coloured - I've tried lots. It's the best.
  • I think Batiste is the best, I always stock up when it's on offer to save money on it.
It's half price at Superdrug at the moment.

Royal Mail do allow aerosols for "personal grooming or medicinal purposes" - they just need to be packaged and labelled correctly.
Can't post links but look up Royal Mail: Restricted Goods.

If it's the "One More Day Dry Shampoo" there are some for sale on ebay at the moment.

  • VO5 Refresh Me Quick is my favourite dry shampoo. It £1.50 in Superdrug at the moment.

I don't like the smell of Batiste and I wasn't a fan of the Aussie dry shampoo either.
  • Thanks for your replies!:)

I use Klorane dry shampoo. Not cheap but have tried all the other ones and they don't come close to the effect of Klorane.
