Word & Windows 7 Pro

I had, (still have), Microsoft Office 2000 Professional on a XP desktop for years without problems, I have now acquired a Windows 7 Pro desktop and when using Word 2000 the following happens: -

When closing Word 2000 I get the following in a pop up, "Microsoft Word for Windows has stopped working. Windows is checking for a for a solution to the problem", there is a "cancel" button that if I press it will stop Word after a few seconds of the rotating wheel, if I do not press cancel then after a few seconds the pop up is replaced with another pop up saying, "A problem has caused the programme to stop working correctly. Windows will close the programme and notify you if a solution is available", the rotating wheel is back but it is up to me to click the cancel button in this pop up to close Word.
Word 2000 still works on my XP machine without problems, it is a genuine CD registered to me.

Is there a solution to this?

Office 2000, including Word, might not be supported on Windows 7 but plenty of users report it does in fact run well.

You might try running it in Compatibility Mode. To do this, click Start and find the Word icon ... Right click on this and from the menu select Properties. Now select the Compatibility tab and click the box to run in Windows XP compatibility mode.

Just tried this and nothing different.

It was, unticked with XP Service pack 3 greyed out, I have tried ticking and applying with XP Service pack 3 and Windows 7.

Have left it in the state I found it, unticked with XP Service pack 3 greyed out.

That's a shame. Did you reboot your PC after making the compatibility change (clutching at straws here). Also, have you checked Windows Updates in case there are any updates either for Windows 7 or more importantly for Office 2000. Other than that I'm out of ideas.

Have had a look but most seem to be talking about Outlook re emails and passwords, but seem to say there "While Microsoft may say the older Office versions are "not compatible" or "not supported" on the current version of Windows, this doesn't necessarily mean "won't work". It just means that you might have issues and can't call Microsoft for help.".

So it seems I might just have to put up with the exit issue.

They also say,"Do not enable compatibility mode – this is not needed and will cause problems with any version of Outlook.", although this may only relate to Outlook.

Thanks but re the other reply,(and mine), it seems there is no fix.

I used Office 2000 on my Win 7 - 64 pro desktop with no problems - except for the Outlook component - for several years - before updating to Office 2013 last year - which was a mistake - I despise the menu !!
I have installed ubit menu on Office 2013 to return some of the usability !
