I am wanting to get the OH an mp3 player that will play random also with FM radio in it, he will need a 30gb for the amount of Cd's he has. He will want one with a good solid sound( will I need a docking station or speakers )because he will not use headphones. It will be only to use on holidays so I don't want to go overboard with price but the sound is important to him.

iPods have excellent sound quality but are not the cheapest and you'd need an accessory to receive radio (Dixons are doing refurbished 30GB for £99). Also remember that the sound quality depends on the MP3 files themselves (bitrate and rip quality) probably more than the MP3 player.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

these will make a hell of a difference no matter what player you have. iaudio will be one of the better sounding, they also play back flac files (highest quality audio codec).
Sorry just noticed you dont need the headphones, if its just going into a docking station or i guess travel type speakers, then the quality of the player will make zero difference.
Just found this creative its a refurb that won't bother me, its a great price0 -
i hear zens have good quality sound
i think you can get a 60 gig for about 180 quid on amazon0 -
If you're playing compressed music files (i.e. mp3s) it probably isn't going to sound much different on any MP3 player.
To get good sound you'll need a decent docking station. If you spend £30 on a station you're not going to get good sound.0
