Goskippy/Debenhams High excess-low premium insurance

Want to know if anyone has opted for one of these policies.
I pretty much spend half of my day looking at car ads and insurance policies and being a first time driver aged 23 the lowest I will ever get is between 1000-1500 on a low insurance group hatch etc.
Occasionally though I find slightly higher insurance group vehicles that have sky high quotes, £2000+ at the cheapest end, except for Goskippy and Debenhams who will insure me for under £400 but the excess is 1350, voluntary plus compulsory.
Has anyone seen these kinds of quotes and actually opted for them? Worst case scenario I have to pay out, that would still take my yearly insurance cots to 1750 and would only be a few hundred pounds more expensive than the lowest quotes I have seen.
In fact those tend to have 500-600 excess so those end up being worth the same if I had to make a claim anyway.
Is the excess the only catch to these policies? Seems way too good to be true.....

You only have to pay an excess for damage to your own car so if you drive an old banger then its fine to have a high excess so long as you don't expect anything back for your own car in the event of an at fault accident.0

I just tried Debenhams for my daughter; they look like they are basically Direct Line in disguise. Anyway the quote was over twice the price of Admiral group even with a high excess selected.0

Yeah it depends on the vehicle, which is the other really dodgy part about this all.
When I try to insure like a 1.2 litre Skoda Fabia they will quote me like 2500-3000 whereas the admiral group insurers will be under 1500. But when I get quotes for something else, in this case a sports trim Toyota Yaris, the admiral group quotes jump to 2000+ but then the debenhams/goskippy drop significantly down to 400 which is super confusing and why I am not sure what to make of it all!0 -
