DPD / PC World delivery - can't find us - magically signed for - looong story

I'll try and make this as short as possible...
My little sister decided she wants an Ipad air - certain colour - certain GB. PC world yesterday didn't have any could have it delivered to store next Tue or for £4 to home today. We can be tricky to find so always ask "will they be given our number and will they phone?" answer "yes" fab do that then.
Today we can track the parcel online have done from parcel 1 to our magic number 21
Suddenly a text saying a calling card was left because noone was in to sign for it, there were 3 people in the house, and my dad was outside doing something, no way someone could come down out drive without us knowing. And no phone call to say lost!
This was about half 1. So we check online next day to rearrange deliver isn't till Tue we could have had it to store for then! So we try and phone DPD all automated, so we phone PC World.
They contact DPD who said the gate was locked... we don't have a gate! So it's been back and forth and we finally agree a refund would be best and we'll drive to a store which does have one. So they head off to a PC world store hour away to collect one as it's closest in stock and closes at half 4. Mum is still on the phone to the lady when they left, and has been most of the time since half 1 only 2 cut offs when they have phoned us back.
DPD systems have updated and reckon our package was singed for by our surname at 1.27 . 2 mins after the noone was in note was left apparently
I stayed home they haven't been here and the time given was BEFORE everyone left to go buy one.
Can anyone advise what we need to do now? Do we contact the police ourselves?
Sorry about the essay and thanks in advance

Just contact PC World and let them know, they are responsible for the item until it is delivered to you. Also have a good look around outside in case DPD did manage to find you and dumped the parcel somewhere.0

So have pc world changed their stance and are they now refusing a refund? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

It's now on hold until they are able to talk to DPD again which wont be until Tuesday because of the bank holiday.
Apparently it was signed for 1.5 miles away from our house in a different village by a man walking a dog
how wise of the delivery person.
