Furniture Contract - Can I cancel

Yesterday I went into a furniture store and agreed to over £3000 worth of couches. I was also sold the extended warranty on the basis that I had a dog and could call them out as often as i liked to clean the couch so stains as a result were not an issue.

However, after I signed the contract and left the shop I realised that I was not given written documentation on the insurance policy.

Looking online there turns out to be limits which were not explained to me, such that the light coloured suite that I purchased will not survive a house with a dog. I need to get out of the contract.

I feel I was mis-sold the suite and the insurance agreement.

What are my rights?

It is likely that the insurance has a cooling off period, but that will not cancel the furniture contract - the two are separate.

If it is DFS go in asap and ask to change your order to something more suitable, after years working in the industry I know a few things and one with dogs should buy fabric. Ever. Do the right thing and get some proper leather, I am writing this on my leather suite 16 years after buying it and it looks as good as day one.

You'll have to be quick as once the factory start making your furniture that's it, it's your's and on its way.

Go for fixed foam cushions- don't worry the sales staff will demonstrate the benefits to you when you are in the show room. Good luck.
  • It wasn't DFS. It was SCS...same thing.

We DID opt for fibre cushions and are likely to go and change to foam cushions. Leather is no good for a dog...claws and leather don't go together.

I will visit the store and discuss the extended warranty.

There is however, one clause written on the reverse of the "contract" that reads, (in very tiny print)...This contract shall become binding when it is signed by you and a sales representative on behalf of SCS. I am paraphrasing, however basically unless the contract is signed by both parties I am assuming it is not a legally binding contract. It is likely this will be corrected in the future but in the mean time there is no place on the contract for a sales representative to sign, therefore I am assuming if it was to come down to it, this is not a legally binding contract.

I clearly need to discuss this warranty, (and the foam vs fibre) with the salesperson, but at leat if the conversation goes sour I have an ace in my back pocket.

Of cause claws and leather go together! It's a hard wearing material as oppose to fabric, which isn't!

Decent leather + dogs = fine. (And way better than material! )

Just get a throw and teach your dog that they can only sit where the throw is.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

And never put the throw on the sofa.

I think what they mean is that some dogs have a tendency to scratch leather.

My parents have a small terrier who ended up near shredding the front of their leather suite just through jumping onto the suite (rather than destructive tendencies).

Can be solved with a throw - but then the same could probably be said for a fabric suite.

The thing about leather is, it's wipeable.

Just make sure if you do go for leather that it is real 100% leather do not buy the bi-cast so called leather. This is the equivalent of fish-fingers all the sweepings up with an outer coating.
It peels within a few years.

When we bought our leather suite from an independent retailer we were advised by the shop to buy the second top grade as we had dogs. They said the top grade was too soft.

We have had the suite for at least 15 years and it is just beginning to show wear.

Our dogs only get up to sleep beside us. they donlt go up unless somebody is already sitting there and just climb and settle down.
