Old talk 21 e-mail account - want to stop paying/close

I've got an old talk21 e-mail account that I don't really use anymore. I'm still paying £1.60 a month for having this account - I didn't mind paying this when I had the account benefits of creating alias e-mail addresses etc but when talk21 got bought out (by BT I think?) , this feature ceased.

I'd like to cancel the e-mail account and stop paying - I can cancel the payment from my bank but having logged in to my talk 21 e-mail account can't see any option to tell BT to stop taking the money which I guess I need to do as well. Helpfully, when you search the help section on the BT site - nothing useful comes up!!! Has anyone managed to cancel their talk21 account / can point me in the right direction? Thanks

Just cancel the DD, they'll be in touch and then you can tell them.

I agree about the penguins :D

However, there's nothing like cutting off the money to ensure people get in touch. You stop paying and they stop providing the service which is exactly what the OP wants.

When I quite Sky I stopped the DD and they stopped the service, result. They wrote a few letters trying to get me to stay which I ignored.

When the girlfriend stopped Sky she spent hours on the phone with them passing her from dept. to dept. offering her incentives to stay. She thought it was all sorted right up to the point where they took another month's payment from her account. More phoning, more grief, more time and a load of pain getting that month's money back.

    I prefer my method.:p

I called to cancel my premium email account before they were to begin charging. Was done in minutes.

Except that it usually ends up getting you a bad credit rating at Experian etc. If you're not renting property and that's not a problem to you, then job done.

I own everything I have outright. I haven't had a loan in years as you say, job done.

cancelling DD without sending in a written cancellation notice can land you in hot water. It really depends on the other party - most will jut close the account without any further trouble, technically they can still pursue you for the debt and add on admin costs and spiral out of control.

I would phone them up and tell them to close your account and depending on the terms (closed 30 days after cancellation) they will take the last payment and then close the account.
