Gas Boiler Broken - pls help

Hi
We have a Vailliant EcoTec boiler.
It has an error code "F75" and gives no hot water or heating.
BACKGROUND
About 8 years old
Has had limited servicing
Last few months has sounded noisier when operating hot water or heating
Came home from a few days away to find it with F75 code. I re-pressurised it thinking that might be the problem, switched on and off.
Tested the "digital" pressure by pushing the button - that was/is reading 1.6 bar.
Last night after re-pressurising I managed to get the heating on and it stayed on for a few hours until I switched it off - same with hot water on demand.
This morning, didn't need the heating. Ran a bath - hot for short while then cold and F75 code again.
Switched boiler on and off a few times - it tries to start, makes noises, then F75 code.
Is there anything else I can try myself - unqualified.
Or does anyone know what the problem might be so I sound more clued up if I have to call someone out.
Would it be better to try Vailliant the company for an engineer or just a local plumber from Yellow Pages?
Many thanks for any help.
