Thanks for explaining, funbrum, I guess working fulltime from home, house sharing and owning a draught old stone fixy up makes that impossible for us here. The family would have me committed for handing them blankets and lighting candles. I guess my grocery spend of £15 per week for 2+ visitors is my saving grace. :)
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

:rotfl: I know it doesn't suit most people but I'm out a lot of the time and holiday abroad during the winter, I will be even more so now I've retired!:D

Your food budget is good though, so keep it up!:T

2 direct debits out of my bank today. So that's £22.12 deducted.

I really need to tighten my belt to get through this month, so have to hit anything's on the head, unless I can get any freebies!:o

  • Hello :-)

I've just spent some time reading through all of the posts here and I'm so inspired by you all! I'm definitely looking to join in with this lovely frugal lifestyle.

In our house there myself, oh, DS1-6, DS2-4 and DD-1. We home educate them so they're here all day and fed all meals. We have a fair sized house that also old so can feel the cold quite a lot too. We used to (and still do at times if I'm honest) spend money on stuff we absolutely don't need.

Going forward I need to set a proper budget for the year and sell a lot on ebsy. We've booked a week at centerparcs and I'd like to raise the money for the balance outstanding by selling stuff we don't need!

I'm off to meal plan and look through the freezer and cupboards as we have a ridiculous amount of food.

Can I ask what peoples food spends are for the month with families roughly the same as mine please? I've one in nappies and one in night time pull ups. 1 cat as well.

Thanks in advance and looking forward to be super frugal with you all!

  • Hi & welcome Frugalwannabe  My gc monthly budget for myself, oh & lo 2 1/2 is about £150-£180. That includes all nappies, cleaning products and the odd thing needed for the house - last month I got some bedsheets & today I picked up a dimmer switch for our lounge for example. I can usually do it for about £150/£160 but realised last year I need to factor in some meals that feel special or otherwise we ended up getting a takeaway or going out to eat :o

With 2 extra little ones I imagine I would add an extra £40/50?

I saved all my receipts from January for everything but I haven't added them up yet, but Ive had a few unexpected things to get that hadn't been budgeted for so I must pull back abit to try to get back into budget.

I wish the weather was a bit drier as I took over an unused allotment just before Christmas and its really hard going at the moment and I'm starting to panic a bit as I need some clear groung soon to start a bit of planting. But as one of the old men told me the other day, its a hobby not a job!!!!!but his is pristine so that doesn't help me lol
