So today I used the link here on MSE to switch my main bank account to First Direct. Eventually once it's sorted and everything is switched I will get £150 cash back and if I pay in £1,000 a month then I will get another £10 a month credited as far as I can see. If after 6 months I am not happy I can switch and also be paid more money.
So hopefully it will go smoothly, I can consolidate my accounts and close the old ones. My money is currently stretched across two bank providers and several accounts with each of them.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.
  • Hi Mooloo, I switched over a few days ago to First Direct to take advantage of the £150 offer too. So far its been smooth and the new account details and cards have arrived.

As far as I can see you don't get a further £10 per month for paying in £1000 per month - instead paying in the £1000 per month OR having a balance of £1000 in the account means you do not have to pay the usual fee they charge for the account which is £10 per month.

Apologies if someone as already said this, or if you've sorted out what you are going to do (haven't read through the thread yet!) but the trick we use is to cancel sky (you can still have the freeview channels with the sky box), and then they usually send you a 50-60% off offer after a week or two to try and entice you back! Worth a go...nothing ventured and all that! :money:

Edit: you don't need a freesat box as once you cancel sky you get a lot of free channels on your old sky box (a few missing from normal freeview like Film4 but most of them!)

I rang to cancel, and got a deal which cuts my bills and keeps my broadband and phone, and a basic package for 10 months. It will save me £338 this year.

Ok thanks. Still got to be a better option then staying where I was.
I have delayed the date till 22nd as I'm away next weekend abroad so I didn't want any hiccups while away.

I will think about credit card tarting when I get back.

    Evening all

Been a busy time for us here and have been trying to be goodwih money (though a fast food dinner out snuck in today). We have menu planned until my next pay day and will need to go shopping for the meals.

My eldest was in hospital for a planned op earlier in the week and I put money aside for food etc that hasn't been spent (we took our own food in and didn't buy much extra). Hoping to put that into savings

Actually... I'll move it over now..

My two boys like jelly and I found some orange jelly sachets so made one up with some orange pieces added. Hoping it sets and hen stays set in my youngests lunch box tomorrow and doesn't become a dribbley mess

I spent £15 on a big branded non-stick stew/soup pot today but I'm thrilled as it was reduced from £30 and I'll save lots of money by making more of my own soup. (I have been using a small pan but it was such a hassle that I wasn't doing it very often and resorted to buying soup and stock too often.)

I'm going to make tomorrow a NSD - putting it on here to make me more accountable!

Enjoy your night out Fun Brum!
