looking forward to reading more, am thinking about retirement too....but need to save the money firstMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
Greent, yes we save in a separate account and transfer it ti the mortgage when we reach £500.
Today I have been the Leftover Queen, the remains of all the Christmas food have been frozen, I've also made a couple of turkey, ham & mushroom pies and made some potted beef.
I'm going to feed a colleague's cats in a while, an extra £40 towards the mortgage. I used to make extra money in all sorts of ways, cat & dog sitting, sewing, knitting things to sell, taking in lodgers etc but I'm finding it all a struggle now. I can't do as much as I used to. I have tried surveys but always find that after 10 minutes of ticking boxes I get a message saying I don't fit the criteria, so I don't bother any more.

This annoys me too, which is why I am very selective about which companies I will do surveys for. Yougov, Ipsos and Pinecone are fair and reliable, in terms of reward vs time, ease of payment and not disqualifying you after a million and one questions.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Thank you for that Pavlovs_dog.
Today I paid my cat sitting money into the savings account.
I collected a prescription from the chemist but that's all I have done today.

AArrrgh, the mortgage company have changed the rules again, I phoned to make a payment of £500, they can't accept it towards reducing the term, they can only reduce the monthly payment!
Cue a conversation through gritted teeth, eventually I managed to drag the information out of them, the payment needs to be £562.09.
Whatever!! I paid the required amount and knocked another month of the term, hooray.

Today I'm taking photo's, I'm decluttering and putting a few things on ebay, they are a juicer, mini oven, two quilted wall hangings and two Fat Lady ornaments, if they don't go on ebay they can go to the charity shop.
Either way it's a little less clutter.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Well I haven't posted an update for ages and that is because there is nothing to update!
Every spare penny we have is currently going in solicitors fees to sort out MIL's will, the bill has jumped from £3000 to £5000 in the last 2 weeks. We can't carry on like this, so are hoping for a resolution sooner rather than later. Hubby is meeting with the solicitors and other family members on Friday, fingers crossed they can get something sorted.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Hi Hester
Sorry to hear about your legal troubles.
I know what you mean about Berkshire being expensive, I'm from Berkshire too.
What part are you in?0 -

Sorry to interrupt, a while ago I was involved in an estate and wonder why the solicitors are billing you, any bill should be offset against the estate as the bill is the deceased (that's why they charge so much, ours was £4,700) not yoursDebt Free Diary - Second Chances! Chelsea I'm just outside reading, you?
Hi Sue, the estate is comprised of MIL's property, it is for FIL to live in until he dies. Then it is divided up between MIL's children, one of the children is being difficult. FIL could live another 20 years & the solicitors don't want to wait that long or their money.Chin up, Titus out.0
