Bath Taps

Options
I'm looking to replace some bath taps - the ones I have are mixer taps, that start off on 2 "mounting pillars" then have what look like nuts that connect them to a mixer unit.

Kind of looks like this : http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?cId=A334902&ts=15753&id=43787

I want to replace these with a shower/ mixer unit.
Is it possible to just unscrew the nuts (on the top of the "pillar" and connect a new mixer unit that has a shower attachment?

Above is what we are looking to put in. Note the "pillars" and the joining "nuts"

I have seen such taps in the shops (and this is what we want) - albeit temporarily.
I have thought of replacing the bath taps totally, but can't see how to get at the pipework underneath - some of it is actually right against/in the wall of the bathroom.

If it is a case of unscrew and replace, then I can do it - or is it a proper plumber job?

  • I don't see why you couldn't do this.

Things that you would have to checkout is:

The distance between centres of the legs. (I would have thought this to be a standard size otherwise you will have to move the position of the whole tap!)

The size of the fittings used of the old legs and the new mixer unit.

If you can get the side panel off the bath then I think to change the entire tap it's just a case of unscrewing the old and screwing in the new with the water turned off obviously.

    Hi

If you buy the mixer you want then see if it works ,if not then replace the complete mixer .If it does swap you might find the new body shows up the older and not so shiny legs of the old.
It would be a plumber job if you can't get the hang of using a universal spanner to undo the backnuts on the old tap,it depends how old the tap is.
