Hi all,
Can anyone from Leeds recommend me where to live in Leeds if I was to work in Leeds City Centre? I will be taking public transports and my budget would be £600 (bills included) for a one bed flat/studio. I'd preferably live within 15min by bus from the Centre. I have done some research but I'd like to have a point of view from people who are currently living in Leeds, also regarding areas that are safe or not.
Cheers and Happy holidays:beer:

Leeds is awash and I mean awash with city centre flats and there is no shortage of empty lets if you have the money.
Place known as ghost town, or new dock has flats to let and it is walking distance with the city.
Unfortunately £600 a month is student house share budget. the lowest 1 bed in that area is around £650 per month, but it is walking distance to town so transport costs will be zero.
Any nearer to town and you hit £750 a month.
You may get cheaper at hyde park, but like most of Inner North / east Leeds it is an absolute hell hole of a place to live with the most burgled streets in Europe.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Thank you for your reply. What about areas such as Armley, morley, beeston, burley? I see a lot of flats advertised in this area for around £400 per month. I don't mind not living in a "posh" area. We are a young couple who wants to work in Leeds or around. Also are the transports good from these areas to leeds city centre? 15-20 min by bus is okay for us. Being from London I am used to having buses everywhere coming every 2min but I guess its slightly different in Leeds, although it's a rather big city.0

Depends what you want, some areas of inner North Leeds are very hustle Bustle, student nightlife areas, noisy, always something going on.
"multicultural" areas if thats your scene areas are Chapletown, Harehills, Beeston, Burley, hyde park.
Quiet small townish feel areas Rothwell, Garforth, Horsforth, Pudsey, crossgates, morley, all 15 mins bus rides.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Good luck getting a 15 minute bus ride from any of those last list of places to the centre in rush hour.0

Do most people own a car in Leeds? And I understand that in rush hours it will longer than 15 min. Okay I will check out the areas listed. Thanks!0

Many people outside of the centre of Leeds own a car. That is a choice you can make. However, the traffic and parking a costs make it very expensive/rubbish.
My advice is to visit and stay overnight. A middle of the weekday ticket on Virgin East Coast can be as low as £25 pp each way and a Travelodge is fairly cheap.0 -
Jesus, don't live in Beeston. I'd pay more for a centre flat and not have any transport costs. Bus fares for 2 people easily going to be over £150 a month...
Can you put a boget on having a good night sleep?0 -

Don't live in leeds but work there so know of a few of the areas.
Armley, Beeston are a bit on the rough side....As in don't walk through dark streets at night, rough but cheap.
Morley is an option. A good number of houses come on the market there that are 1 or 2 bed terrace on the £400-£500 figure but throw in bills and your budget is blown (looking round that area myself).
Another option is commute via train. Extend your commute time to 30 mins and a large number places in West Yorkshire becomes an option.Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. Try commuter towns with rail links, they get you into Leeds within 15 minutes or less, I'd look into Morley, Horsforth, Guiseley, Saltaire and Bingley. You'll find something within you Budget in those locations I'm sure.0

Re the transport. Drive myself but Get a metrocard if using public transport in West Yorkshire:
http://www.wymetro.com/TicketsAndPasses/MetroCards/
Bus only your looking at £22 a week (Less than £17 a week if you can afford the yearly version).
Get the Train and bus version for the whole county and your looking at £40 a week (about £30 a week if you can afford yearly version).
Also various 'train zones' card versions that you can get. All that is important to you is Leeds city station is zone 1.Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature.
