Going bankrupt on Monday

I have my appointment for going BR next monday at 9.30am! eek!

Have known deep down that I would be doing this for a couple of months now, just needed to get confirmation from CAB that it was my best option, and had my interview with them last week. I went into work the next day and told my manager (I work in a bank and had to inform them, though I think I probably could have left it until the actual deed) and I have to face a 'risk assessment' to see whether I can keep my job, which they want to do ASAP - not sure if it qualifies as a disciplinary or not and not much looking forward to it either way but never mind.

And then today I broached the subject with my dad - my mum has known for a while (parents divorced) but telling my dad was a bigger deal - he was shocked because he had no idea I owed the money but said he was glad i had told him and that he'd nearly been in the same position himself a couple of times. I had thought about not telling him but that seemed worse than telling him and I know I'm so lucky to have such a supportive family.

Anyway, short of the relatively small danger of losing my job (which I deal with if it happens and fight them all the way if I have to!) I feel a real sense of relief that in a few days this huge secret that I've kept hidden from family and partners for years is out in the open and that I will actually get some respite from the whole thing. I know monday morning won't be the end of it but I feel like i'm taking control, something which I haven't done as many times as I probably should in my life. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone whose posts I've read over the last couple of months - even if all the advice hasn't apllied to me, it helps just knowing that other people are going through similar processes.

You've made some serious progress towards getting things back on track there, and some brave decisions. :)

I hope the job works out OK as well. It galls me more than a little to hear that it is a 'risk assessment' that will decide this. What the h*** do they think you are going to do.:confused:

  • Hi Cinnabar.
I hope the RA at work goes ok, although like Fermi, i think its a little outrageous. Really, its the last thing you need on top of everything else.
At least you have supportive parents behind you, i found mine invaluable.
Good luck for Monday, and let us know how everything goes.

Hope it all works out for you at work, I'm sure it will... I haven't told my Dad yet, he knew I was considering it but I haven't told him it's just next week! He's on his hols at the moment, so will give him the news when he's back.

    Good luck! :)

Good luck on Monday, Cinnabar.

With regard to the 'Risk Assessment' I find it strange that the Banking Industry holds such draconian views on bankruptcy, particularily since they, of all people, seem to be quite happy to 'contribute' to the factors that lead to bankruptcy in the first place.
Maybe it will do them good to have someone with first hand knowledge of bankruptcy on board.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
