Baking Soda has left yellow stainson carpet!

Hi, I had a few muddy prints on my cream carpet so used my Bissell carpet cleaner which cleaned it up a little bit not much.

I then found many reviews online which said to put a solution of vinegar, water and baking soda on the stain then wash it up.

I scrubbed the solution in then used my carpet cleaner on the water only setting but where I scrubbed seems to have left yellow patches everywhere!

I used a Hoover once th carpet was dry then washed the carpet again bit the yellow marks won't come out.

All the Google posts I can find say that the baking soda should turn yellow and then wash out and won't stain but I can't seem to get the yellow marks out....

Can anyone help? Have I made my cream carpet even worse??

Is this by any chance a mixture using ordinary, fish-and-chip malt vinegar (which does have colour) or white vinegar?

My own feeling is that to let it dry thoroughly and then re-assess the situation might be the best option. Often, brightly coloured marks fade to almost nothing once completely dry.

Re-washing is unlikely to do anything except make the carpet wetter.

Could the colour have leached through from the underlay?

    Good luck.

It was plain white vinegar I bought from the cleaning section at the shop...

Just thought I would post an update to this. I sprayed the stains with some more plain white vinegar and the yellow stains almost disappeared in front of my eyes :)

The yellow stains are very feignt however I could still see the dirt so I went over the area again with the carpet washer. When it is dry, if I can still see the yellow stains then I'll use some more vinegar.

Blimey your house is going to smell like a fish & chip shop if you use that much vinegar !!!!
